It's not about that. It's just he had a lucky season combined with probably his absolute peak performance. It happens a lot in sports. The sports illustrated curse is a well documented example: all sportsman who hit sports illustrated cover and are on their mature years, go downhill afterwards.

In football there are tons of examples of players having only one wonderful season when they are mature. Graphite, for instances.
