The Movie House - Part 6 - Page 30 Empty Re: The Movie House - Part 6

Post by El Gunner Sat Jan 16, 2016 9:54 pm

In 2001, editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe assigns a team of journalists to investigate allegations against John Geoghan, an unfrocked priest accused of molesting more than 80 boys. Led by editor Walter "Robby" Robinson, reporters Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Matt Carroll and Sacha Pfeiffer interview victims and try to unseal sensitive documents. The reporters make it their mission to provide proof of a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

That's basically the plot.
The way all of that is told though is what makes the film astonishing. It's a methodical, detailed reali life informative thriller with fantastic performances. Nothing fancy and explosive, so if you want that then you probably shouldn't watch it. But again, it's such a good biographical drama thriller that I would insist you should reconsider.

I am not really into fancy and explosives but biographical films don't really appeal to me. I'll probably watch it at some point in life though.

I've seen that one . Very good movie . Which reminds of something i wanted to talk about in here with you guys who enjoy your movies .

Used to watch so many movies . All the time , if it interested me even a little , i'd watch it , either at home or at the cinema.. However , been some time now i find myself being extremely picky for some reason. Has anyone else been there ? I always was like that , or whatever it was , i would watch literally anything , any movie , from drama to animation , from fantasy to sci fi , horror(well much less of those , i consider 99% of them trash) and comedy , fantasy or western , from war movie to politics movie , biographies and what not , would even watch romance if i knew the movie would be good .

Now i am like the total opposite . I am so picky with everything before watching one and sometimes i just can't bother even when i know the movie will be good . It took me ages to watch the Birdman because of this .. still to see Whiplash , for example , among others .. i know it will be good movies , but i am bored even in the thought

I've also been at the cinema way less than before . Getting bored with movies these days , or what is it.. I only watch my favorite type or blockbusters

Like , here's what i've seen recently , say last 2 months maybe and only the Hateful 8 at the cinema

Sicario
Black Mass
The Hateful 8 ( Proud )
The Martian
The Man from UNCLE
Bone Tomahawk
Slow West
Hotel Transylvania 2

maybe a couple more i don't remember right now. Now , unless the movie is of certain proven quality , i don't even bother . It kind of upsets me a little , not sure why i became so picky and demanding but there it is . Are you picky with your movies too ?

I'm not necessarily picky I would say. Or not in the way as you are.

Although I do keep an eye on general ratings on movies to get an idea whether or not I want to watch them. For instance, I was looking forward to Child 44 and Tomorrowland this year, but because of poor to average reviews it has put me off. I wanted to go and see Everest at cinema, but when reviews weren't that great as I had hoped for, I got put off. So that's basically me. I'll still watch any film which people on a regular basis recommends to me (if a good reason is given). And it's not as if those movies I have listed above I won't ever see, because as soon as I probably get a copy from someone or if it is showing on tv I will watch it if I get the chance, because I just love watching movies, and I can get into something no matter how good or bad it is, then I will just kinda hope it won't be thaaaaaat bad or a waste of my time. But still if I watch a horrible movie, I wouldn't be that pissed off, because I love film. I've grown a passion for it in recent years. And even though I don't study it at a institution I consider myself a lowkey amateur student, critic and lover of film.

So basically to shorten it, it all depends on the general ratings the film has been getting and the worth of the amount of effort that I have to put into it.

The only thing I'm really picky about is TV shows. Because there is more commitment attached to it as it has to be watched every week, or every year it comes out.

Sly got the Critic's Choice also. He seems to be a lock.

Alicia got the supporting nod. She's gotta be a favourite now with Kate Winslet. 2-horse race now.

Jacob Tremblay gave the GOAT acceptance speech. Anyone who doesn't want kids should stay away from any interview of that kid. Insanely adorable.

Leo won again. Should be a lock now for Oscars ffs  Winning Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards is a good indicator. Ih he wins BAFTA, might as well start celebrating.

I don't think historically speaking if we look at the stats Baftas and Globes is the ideal indicator. I think it's more the SAGs.

Last year iirc didn't Keaton grab the Globe and much of the early awards and then Redmayne silently approached and won the SAG and then finally the Oscar. Laughing

Redmayne did win GG and Bafta though. The only thing Keaton beat him out on was Critics Choice. So it's definitely a good indicator.

And both McCaunaghey and DDL before that cleaned up Globes, BAFTAs, and Critics Choice and comfortably won the Oscar.

Well, she's obviously an ignorant bitch. She has the husband and the power to actually produce good roles for black people.

Meanwhile she produces films such as After Earth and Annie
