Anyone with two brows knows that Messi's season has been far superior to CR's, but the stats would paint a different picture. Messi has been winning games for Barca, stepping up and scoring once a game against La Liga opponents, often with deciding goals. CR has scored 5 a piece against several CL group fodder teams while letting his team languish to their worst league finish in a while. Not all goals are of equal importance.

This is why stats are meaningless.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that they're meaningless, they just not be as meaningful as some people think- not to mention that they can be broken down and manipulated to fit one's argument
