Did Soudi Arabia just gave 200 lashes and 6 month jail for rape victim?

I have seen many forms of injustice but this one takes the cake.

For me things like this are proof that there cannot be a god - at least not a benign and just one, if there can be people who claim to act after some "godly law" and use it for torture and killing without facing any punishment themselves.

Just a normal day in Saudi Arab.

Not that I am religious at all but if free will was truly given to us by a higher power, that includes people being allowed to do good and bad things. It wouldn't really be free will otherwise would it?

How they define it or brand it is not fault of the religion or the belief. Do you seriously believe that any religion can be based on such stupidity??? What you do is utterly your responsibility, not God's.

Well, IMO it shows that if there is some god, it obviously doesn't care for humans as it allows people to commit horrendous crimes in its name.

It obviously doesn't care whether people believe in it or pray to it as even pious people die due to natural catastrophes, diseases, accidents and criminal acts committed against them. (And you can't say that natural disasters are happening due to people's free will, or you may talk to the next earthquake or tsunami and tell it off).

So why stick to rituals collected in ancient books that were obviously written by humans with their own motives, usually not even directly, but decades or even centuries after the events they wrote about, thus only working on mere hearsay? If you look at the evangelists in the bible, they even contradict themselves about the same story!

If you look at the horrors the ground personal that claims to act on god's wishes has done (from inquisition, heathen hunts and witch burnings to religiously motivated injustice, suicide bombings, destruction of cultural monuments and the like, all "in the name of God"), then people obviously need to stand up and take that power from them as they only wield the sceptre of religion to increase their clearly only secular power.

After all, how can anyone even think that by doing such crimes they could get into that heaven they talk about? So they obviously don't believe in any heaven or hell in the first place (or they think their "God" is so evil and corrupt that it will reward them for their crimes?). They just need to manipulate their sheep to believe in it, so that they can continue to wield their unholy power.
