Too many perma banned users
Due to this post:
http://www.goallegacy.net/t38399-gems-of-gl
I've lurked into older threads, to realise that in all of them there are several perma banned users. Most of them, I have no idea why they were perma banned, and even some of them I recall as funny posters. Really, minor bickering shouldn't be a reason to perma-ban people, perma-banning is like the death penalty in the forum.
I just recall the I-No scandal as a good reason to perma-ban someone tbh. Otherwise, I can't see how users as the Boy Wondder, Clockwork Orange, the xcx, The Madrid One, Cyberman and so many others!
I urge the mods to lax their banning policy in the future and reconsider a grace to the perma-bans to celebrate Bara's record-breaking second treble.

We do not ban lightly, people who get banned are deservedly banned as they break the forum rules.
And often those perm banned posters have broken numerous rules over numerous different occasions.

the mods do dock warning points for real petty stuff though tbh.Kick wrote:http://www.goallegacy.net/t8716-ban-thread

Re: Too many perma banned users
The moderators enforce the rules of the forum that the Admins set forward. The rules have either been in place from the inception of these forums or were created in reaction to specific issues and instances that required clarification or addition to the previously established rules; rules that you and all other posters implicitly agreed to abide by when you created an account and posted in these forums for the first time.
Users who have been permanently banned fall into three specific categories:
1) Spam bots/posters only advertising.
2) Alt/Multi Account Users.
3) Users banned from heinous or repeated offenses.
Clearly, your complaint appears to be with the final category. This category includes those posters who either made posts so offensive or inappropriate that they were determined to have earned an immediate permanent ban, or posters who received multiple notices, warnings, and temporary bans, INCLUDING warnings that they were on their final chance, and yet still chose to break the established rules of the forum or, in several cases, repeatedly insult and even threaten staff. In actuality, however, the number of posters who have received permanent bans in this category is actually quite small. Instead, many of the posters who have received permanent bans did so by being either too immature or too impatient to wait out a temporary ban (in most cases, bans of less than 2 weeks) and instead created alt-accounts in attempts to skirt the temp-ban. This is, and has always been (even before GL) an immediate permanent ban.
The rules currently in place and the policies for how they are enforced have come from the experiences of these forums and their predecessors over the course of more than half a decade of experience. While these rules are not "set in stone" and will always remain open to revision, they are NOT going to be changed without a clear and convincing reason.

Re: Too many perma banned users
Well, I don't really think creating an alternative user should be a reason for a perma-ban... maybe just increase their ban longer? Most of those I named were colorful fun characters who I struggle to think why they were banned tbh.
Also, one has to wonder what it is needed to be banned in this forum when others have never been banned despite awful attitude, like Super Floren.
I would give a second chance to those permabanned after a year or half a year.
Also, what does DOMA stands for in the ban thread?

I think Red should put on a Santa hat on New Year's Eve and clear all bans TBH.

Very much down to people's opinions, this, but I do agree with the OP, for my liking people get banned too easily on this forum.

Agree.
The authority here I pretty much respect and they do a decent job 90% of the time, and I applaud them for that.
But some other stuff I find questionable, not just perma-bans.

Are you guys serious?
The Mods are extremely lenient imo.
Half the stuff people get away with here...... they wouldn't last 10 posts anywhere else.

Creating an alternative account completely gets around the ban, thus they do not serve their ban. The permanent ban stops this.
DOMA is discussion of moderator activity.
I believe he originally was, but has since been upgraded to Perm, not 100% sure though.Don't call me James wrote:Indris' ban was 10 years, wasn't it?

1. I posted to many of these as a response to chad going on one of his rants.
2. I was reading a thread from the last page I left it on instead of reading the last page first answering posts as I went along but I didn't know on the last page the mods said any more replys on the matter would cost 25% but by then I had posted a reply before I saw the warning but when I explained it to them it didn't matter.
3. I told sepi to suck my balls. something I say to my mates when they ring me up after Liverpool lose a game. not really abuse imo.
so I'm down to my last warning and not once did I know at the time this could cost me.

TBH, I'm surprised YOU of all people are complaining.
You complaining is the equivalent of Dnmac, Chad and Jiopsi complaining imo. You guys get away with way more than most.

Can't you ban the IP for some months instead of perma-ban?
What I would give for some of those guys coming back and sparkling this up.

If your IP is blocked, can't you simply switch devices or networks?

if you can switch on a pc you can get round a ip ban.free_cat wrote:Kick wrote:free_cat wrote:Well, I don't really think creating an alternative user should be a reason for a perma-ban... maybe just increase their ban longer? Many ISPs give out a new IP address everytime you connect to them, and banning the whole range of the provider would ban everybody going online by them.free_cat wrote:Can't you ban the IP for some months instead of perma-ban?
