Re: 700+ dead in Hajj stampede
Just heard the father of one of my grade 7/8 schoolmates (in the class next to ours, back in Iran) was one of the victims .
He was a doctor, University professor in dental department.

Re: 700+ dead in Hajj stampede
Was really saddened when I heard about this, it truly is awful news. Some people have been saving up money for years just to make the trip. It makes it worse that it happened during Eid, where most Muslim families were celebrating and others were hearing about the loss of a family member...
If anyone here has done Umrah, they would realize that pushing and shoving DOES happen. Some people want to finish it as quickly as possible and don't care about others. From what I've read about the incident, police closed a road, so in another road people were both exiting AND entering from there.
Imagine all those tired people in that heat with little space around them. They start falling due to shoving or dehydration. Everyone starts panicking and all they care about is getting out of there. What would you do if the person in front of you collapsed? Would you step on those who fell, to save yourself? Or help the person who fell in front of you and likely be trampled on?
The situation shouldn't have even happened in the first place, but it does beg a moral question. I wonder what I would have done if I were put in that situation

Pretty sure that in such a stampede panic situation, you stop caring about others pretty instantly and automatically.
Shame on Saudi Arabia for not managing to provide some sort of safety for the visitors.

Saudi Arabia IS "The most Evil" country in the world. No one even comes close to them, no one.
They are directly/indirectly responsible for so much crime in various parts of the world, yet never under scrutiny because U.S. is literally their bitch.

Yep.
They're pretty much getting away with everything due to obvious reasons, and are rewarded with a few tank or weapon shipments by the German goverment too.
Usually this sort of thing happens (even in much smaller scale), lawsuit will follow. People will go to jail or be fired.
Probably not in Saudi Arabia.
Not sure where most of the pilgrims come from, but it's safe to say Saudi authorities neither value their lives very much nor are afraid of their families/countries power to demand consequences.
