Soriano would be a legit choice . Pls Guarin go away , 20 mln for an inconsistent player , old 30 years , Brozovic' s reserve , with his contract close to expire would be an unreal deal

What are you judging Caulker's ability from anyway?

I refuse to believe Liverpool can't snag someone better on a loan deal. Or throw in some youngsters or something, they can't be much worse.

Caulker played for Spurs, I watched probably 15+ games of him not including his games for QPR. So I feel as if I can have a say, and I don't think a person here would disagree with my assessment of him, Art aside, and he doesn't really count.

kicker (my translation) wrote:The rumour refuses to go away. It swirls from Italy across the Brenner to Leverkusen time and time again: Napoli wants Christoph Kramer, rather today than tomorrow.
Recently the supposedly serious journalist Ginaluca [sic] di Marzio claimed that the player had agreed terms with the Southern Italians.

If the official indeed has planned this business trip, it would be advisable to cancel it.
Because his plan is challenged by two quite substantial statements:
"We won't sell the player", says Bayer's transfer executive Jonas Boldt.
And Kramer's agent Gerd von Bruch tells kicker: "There never were any talks. We know since Rafa Benitez's time that Napoli is interested in Christoph. But: Christoph does not want to go to Napoli"

After proclaiming his love for Andy Carroll, Steven Caulker, and hoofed long balls, it's obvious that for some reason, Art_Morte simply likes bad football. So I think CBarca is kind of spot on... Razz

Caulker's signing wasn't an emergency loan deal with an eye on the rest of the season, it was an emergency loan deal with an eye on the Arsenal match.  Our crisis was (and still is, to a degree) so bad that we could quite possibly have had a single (1 [ONE]) fit central defender at the club for that match (INCLUDING potential U21s anywhere near the first team) for the Arsenal match.  Caulker was brought in with that in mind (and, yes, the rest of the season as a secondary concern).  The move materialized in less than 24 hours.  With the club clearly pursuing a higher calibre of player in the summer, it was a move out of necessity as a stop-gap, built upon expediency.

Terrible signing tbh, as it's clearly not the kind of quality Liverpool should be aiming for. If that's the kind of team Klopp envisions, the future is bleak

Ok, so I got the figures a bit wrong. Just verified:

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2015-10/28/c_134759526.htm
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2015-10/28/content_22303384.htm

8bn RMB for 2016-2020 - $1.25bn USD.

I am not sure how that compares with other European leagues, but for a no name league in a country not famous for its football, that sure is a lot of money.

I know that PL is on 5.2bn Pounds for 3 years from 2016-17.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31357409

hmm
