The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
No trophy for 9 years
No big trophy for 11 years and still counting
5 times in a row eliminated in R16 of CL
Last times semis of CL reached in 2008-09
Last time 2nd or higher in EPL final standings was in 2004-2005
And you cant blame this only on lack of money. In last seasons there was no problem with them, but the situation remains unchanged.
Why the head management puts up with that? Why Mr Wenga still not fired? Why fans are fine with this in the end of every season (example: read their section on this forum)?

Re: The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
So you're saying why has Wenger not been sacked in 2014?
It was because he was the best to lead Arsenal in a period where the club had to sell players and turn profits for the good of the club's future and he has done his job in that.
Now that Arsenal are financially stronger (thanks to Wenger's work during that time) it remains to see if Wenger can take this club one more step higher and win the league/CL. But sacking him after Arsenal just won the FA Cup back to back would be incredibly harsh.

In that case, your thread is two years late.

Depends. Time is relative. If we measure in RG time, he's on time.

Re: The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
i don't like arsenal nor wenger...hell, i dislike both. but if he was to get sacked, who would replace him? many of the so called top coaches out now would fail with this arsenal side. getting a new manager (a top level manager, not some mid table epl coach) would mean them splashing way more cash than the club probably feels comfortable with....firing a manager and hiring a new one isn't the cheapest thing to do, you pay the coach his earnings and then some if he's still under contract, couple that with the new managers wages and all the new players he would want to bring into the team; not every club is ready for the stress nor have the $ for that kind of hassle

Except Arsenal do have the money to sack a manager, hire a new one and buy plenty of new players. It's not the club that's uncomfortable with spending money, but the manager.

Re: The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
They have no definite objective before a season.
They are content with finishing anywhere in top 4, how can a team with such less pressure win any major trophies?
What is their objective this season? what happens when that objective is not achieved ? Nothing. Wenger and players continues. There is no pressure, hence players doesnt even believe in themselves and push themselves to their limit. If Arsenal offered top 4 before the season wenger will probably take it.

Just to answer some of your questions:
1). A team with "such less pressure" won the FA Cup twice in a row and is competing in the league this season.
2) The objective this season is to win atleast one of the major trophies. If Wenger doesn't achieve it, he'll be in a lot of pressure as he was in 2014 when he was close to giving up had we not won the FA Cup.

Re: The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
Basically, for those so curious about what the current fan view of Wenger is: he's not got the same excuses he had during the trophyless period (the smaller budget, mainly), so this current three/four year period of his contract is where the team should be challenging for major honours. If it doesn't, I don't think fans will be as forgiving.
From the club's point of view, Wenger goes when he wants to go. They've stated that on more than one occasion.

To be fair, FA cup is a nice trophy to win but it is not a major trophy. There is a reason Hullcity,Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic are making the final's consecutively and thats because the big boys gives much more importance to finishing in top 4 instead of FA cup. It is a small trophy that is nice to win but that should not be an objective for a big club. Arsenal's minimum objective should be to challenge for the Premier League title.
Pressure lol, everything is relative and Wenger having pressure at the end of the season is nothing compared to other managers of big clubs. They are actually in danger of losing their job, comparing their situation to Wenger's pressure is well....not fair. As far as pressure go do you honestly believe Arsenal pressures their managers and players as much as other big clubs?
Goonerjay has stated it better. Clubs point of view is that wenger goes when he wants to go
is that what you call pressure? isnt that the biggest example of pressureless job?
Re: The curious case of Arsene Wenger and FC Arsenal
No, that's called respecting our legends. Unlike other clubs we don't throw them out. And before you twist it in any other way, Arsene has never done anything which is worth the sack regardless of his status.

asrenal gonna have a longer stint not getting past the r16, than rm?
anyway wenger needs to be sacked or arsenal finish midtable, one or the other will force the club to make some decisions.

Why isn't Wenger fired? After such a long time? To be precise, after being at Arsenal since 1996?
Inexplicabe. Can't wrap my mind around it.

Fans of super clubs will never understand. They get spoon-fed everything. They don't have to go through periods where there is no money to spend and you have to sell before you buy. Or keep seeing your stars leave just because other clubs can pay them more. Or that your club is going through financial problems and can't afford to pay wages.
Just because they see their own managers get sacked on a yearly basis, they think it's a normal thing to do so. Some clubs actually believe in class and tradition and to have values. Unsurprisingly those clubs are usually the clubs who don't act like they are entitled to everything and their fans don't think they are privileged.
It's easy being a glory hunter for a super club.

Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern and maybe Juve(need to repeat last season's success in europe) are the only 3-4 super clubs out there.
