Anyway, season 1 was gripping, wasn't particularly fond of the American protagonist, but it was good and I enjoyed, those who have finished season 2, how would you compare it to season 1?

It doesn't skip a beat to be honest
Very action packed, very good acting and writing and proper plot development.

I can't really say a bad thing about it. If you're familiar with the Pablo Escobar story, they did a good job (in my opinion), at following him after his escape from prison at the end of season 1.

Intentionally held it of until season 2 was released. Glad I did. Finished S1 in 3 days and goddamn this is one of the best shows in recent memory. I have criticism on the pacing, found it to be way too fast paced. It went all the way from late 70s to early 90s and skipped a lot of intriguing stuff. I guess they wanted to finish Pablo's story in two seasons and/or had budgetary constraints.

The swearing is so on point though lmao.

Great show! Wagner Moura absolutely slayed the Escobar role! It's as if he had spent prior to shooting some time with Escobar learning everything there's to know about the man from his facial expressions, his walk, his temperament, his stone-cold reaction to imminent danger, his ruthlessness, etc...

But then again I'm not surprised he nailed it because I've always known he's a brilliant actor. For instance, in the Elite Squad diptych he was nothing short of brilliant.

My only problem with Narcos is that I'm only interested in Escobar and really couldn't care less about the remaining cartels. And I felt two seasons are not enough to cover the life of arguably one of history's most notorious drug lords.

I'm sure the show will still be awesome though, but like I said, I'm only interested in Escobar and it's highly unlikely that I will continue watching it.

Amazing show for sure.

Yeah I would say they never showed us enough good stuff about Cali cartel with their appearances to get us invested in them. I imagine they'll get a lot more fleshed out backgrounds and all that in s3 though.

The showrunners said they want to cover the drug trade all the way to El Chapo.

There is a lot of material to cover, there was chaos in the drug trade after
Spoiler:
Season 3-4 has good source material to adapt from but I can see the show declining without a powerhouse like Escobar to focus on.

They could have easily made 5 seasons on Escobar. Episode 1-2 could have easily been 1 season tbh. Carlos Lehder did some crazy stuff with George Jung in Miami (which is covered in the movie Blow) and got rich enough himself that he offered to pay of Colombia's national debt Laughing

After Brian Ross's NBC September 5, 1983 report on U.S. television made public the corruption of Bahamian government leaders, Lehder could not return to Norman's Cay. The government had frozen all his bank accounts and taken over his property and possessions, and he went from being a billionaire to nearly bankrupt. While on the run in the jungle, he got sick with a fever. Escobar sent a helicopter for Lehder and brought him back to Medellín, where he received medical attention to save his life. Even so, he was left very weak. When Lehder recovered, Escobar hired him as a bodyguard.

Wish they showed this.

@M99

Spoiler:

In any case, there is so much content for them to explore

I recommend Cocaine Cowboys 1 and 2 and Pablo Escobar- King of Coke
All three are documentaries that explore the same genre/time

King of Coke actually features Pena and Murphy for interviews which is amazing

I've been wondering if the Lion character from Narcos is actually George Jung. His scenes are identical to the airport scenes from Blow. Any thoughts ?

Yep he is definitely based on him but heavily fictionalized. The real George Jung actually got released from jail two years ago.

Didn't like how they amped up the fiction part even more in season 2. For those who don't know, they basically split up the real character of Colonel Martinez to the fictional Carillo and the Martinez that appears in the show. Martinez did everything Carillo did, he was founder of search bloc, he killed Gustavo, and

So Colonel Martinez killed Gustavo AND caught Pablo? It's not surprising they split the character then because he takes the spotlight away from Murphy and Peña.

Speaking of Limon, he's one of the few things I don't think the show handled very well. He gets basically forced to drive Pablo around at the beginning of the season, is forced to do some awful shit (which he doesn't like) in his name but somehow stays loyal to the end? That should've been La Quica or someone else who's been around from the beginning or even better have Limon get introduced earlier in season 1. I get that Limon was born and raised in a place where Pablo was pretty much worshipped, but in the context of the show I missed that connection.

Went on a binge and finally watched this, 19 episodes in a week ffs. I'll watch the last one of season 2 today.

Brilliant retelling of this story. Excellent acting too, my only complaint is the spanish of Moura (the actor that plays Escobar). It always takes me out of the story, for such a central role they needed someone with native Spanish that could do the accent right. As soon as he speaks there is do doubt that he is not hispanic.

Season 1 was amazing, really fast but great. I'm glad season 2 pulled Cali more into the picture. That's gonna be really interesting, I wanna see how they do that.

I didn't mind the fictionalization of some things. Its such a well known part of history for some that its good to see things a bit fresh. Carrillo was a wonderful character, it was a fine call imo. It allowed them to make a more "crude" version of Martinez with Carrillo and then a more morally "correct" one when the character of Martinez actually came in.

It was beyond satisfying to see Escobar and his cartel get destroyed Molenation These assholes did so much damage back then, and some still are doing it (the paramilitares and the guerrilla) that it just makes me happy every time a guy got caught in the show. Venezuela (where I am from) was always affected by some of these groups, and Escobar is specially unlikable.

Pumped for the Cali story, it can be great.

Show is great, S3 was just as good as a season. Obviously you won't get a GOAT character on Pablo's level but it was top of the line stuff.

Started this. First 2 episodes were really good. Much slower than the first 2 seasons but well done so far.

You can tell how horrible things are gonna turn by how much they keep saying "just 6 months".

Can't wait for someone to kill David and his dad (forgot his name, the brother who is not the main boss).

David, biggest POS in Narcos history lmao.

When Narcos eventually runs out of interesting cartel material to go on, I vote we form on with GL members to give them more, then in 20 years time whichever of us survive will get the best season to date hmm

Anyone here watch Broad City? Goat comedy had Hannibal Buress for the first 2 seasons.

Anyways, in that show the actor who plays David plays a super gay roommate to one of the main cast, so it took me a few eps to buy into him as a narco chief.

So many hateable characters in the cartel in season 3, well done. Even more than the last 2 seasons. David and Miguel take the prize for biggest POS.

There is no character in the cartel that I like as much as Gustavo Gaviria still, although Pacho and Chepe are great. Only Navegante comes close. That actor can play a creepy psychopath like no one else Laughing
