Looks like Leverkusen don't even manage to mess up a 2:0 lead, they also manage to mess up messing up to score two more after being 2:4 down XD

This match reminded Hamburg - Juventus 4-4.
2000-2001
Then Bayern won the Champions League. At San Siro.

Dafuq did I just watch?
Also agree with farfan, even on paper, form aside, Leverkusen probably has the more coherent squad with less duds, even if Romas one or two top players might be better.

Leverkusen should have actually win this game...whenever they are under pressure by opponent after taking lead, they cant hold to it. Schmidt needs to do something about it

Leverkusen mentality will take years to change, never seen that much of an ingrained fear of success; I think Schmidt can do it, but it'll take, oh boy so much time...

What a performance by Mehdi Mahdavikia that night.
1 goal and 2 assists if I remember. Also I believe Panathinaikos was in their group

Replace Leverkusen with Roma and you essentially have the same core issue with both teams.

We are better. Just a question of picking wrong players in starting XI, not able to close the game down. All Garcias fault.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 | Group E
Going into such a match simply thinking you'd win by default against a team like Leverkusen by default is a bad mentality, the more you try to dominate Leverkusen the better they play, they're actually best against really strong teams. It's against scrubs where they drop points.

^ yes, Panatinaikos knocked out Juve winning 3-1 last match at Athens (Paulo Sousa Fiorentina manager with 2nd revenge after Borussia 97. and same stadium where Juve lost a CL final....against Hamburg) . by far the worst CL year for Ancelotti ( rare thing too)

Garcia is a problem.
Who follows Roma it feels we are watching an a underachieved team
And even when it doesn't struggle to create chances ( as it often happens, because they have no gamestyle ) , the defence looks like awful . It is a team who concede too much.
tbf I continued to watch the match because iti s never close for Roma
Pjanic is the Junino Pernambucano's heir though

Oh let's be serious. Roma has a far better team on paper. As Robe said, Garcia is like Ranieri 2.0 but worse. By now he should have the grasp, consistency and awareness of his team. He lost this game, the same as BATE.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 | Group E
His squad selections in defense were really mind boggling. Torosidis is awful and simply isn't up to the level of games like this anymore. Rudiger was clearly not 100% fit either, but neither is Leo Castan so I understand that one a bit more. And then there's the subs. Falque was obviously the only good one.
He needed to have kept these lads calm enough to see out the game.
I said this several times in the chat. We simply can't close out games against big opposition. It's easy enough against the Carpis and the Empolis, but we struggle with anyone else just like we'll struggle with Fiorentina on the weekend.
Now we need to beat both Bayer and BATE at home. On paper, that sounds favorable, but the Olimpico is not the fortress it used to be. We gotta beat both of these sides to get to the next round and make sure other results go our way as well.
On the positive side, I don't recall us scoring so many goals in Germany. We played an 80 minute game basically. Just missing that 10 minutes.

My friend was joking about Leverkusen and Roma competing for the most mentally fragile team in Europe award last CL matchday. I said when they face each other we will probably see the choking apocalypse.
That is exactly what happened. What a match

Re: Champions League 2015/16 | Group E
The goal-fest between Bayer and Roma yesterday prompted the Kicker to list the most goal-rich matches of the CL (8 goals per match and more from 1992 on, that is):
05.11.2003: Monaco - La Coruna 8:3
21.10.2008: Villarreal - Aalborg 6:3
08.03.2005: Lyon - Werder Bremen 7:2
24.10.2000: Paris - Trondheim 7:2
20.10.2015: Bayer Leverkusen - AS Rom 4:4
21.10.2014: AS Rom - FC Bayern 1:7
07.03.2012: Barcelona - Bayer Leverkusen 7:1
10.03.2009: FC Bayern - Sporting Lissabon 7:1
18.09.2002: Piraeus - Bayer Leverkusen 6:2
17.10.2000: Real Madrid - Bayer Leverkusen 5:3
13.09.2000: Hamburger SV - Juventus Turin 4:4
04.12.1996: Borussia Dortmund - Steaua Bukarest 5:3
08.12.1993: Werder Bremen - RSC Anderlecht 5:3
10 of 13 matches involved a Bundesliga team on one or the other side (with Leverkusen mostly being on the 'other')
