Re: Mahrez for POTY
His season has been up and down. Leicester as a whole have struggled, largely due Morgan and Huth being absolutely shocking on the ball, King and Amartey being a poor midfield two (decent players but they have looked out of place in a 4-4-2).
Slimani has changed the whole dynamic of that team with that man city game, and vardy is back at his fiery best. Mahrez is just like ozil, he's a luxury player and he needs to take control of games to be truly world class. But he's close.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
Where is he gonna play as he will be fighting for place with a few regulars. I imagine David Silva might be losing out due to aging...

Re: Mahrez for POTY
I think Silva will keep his place.
But having Sane, Sterling, B Silva and Mahrez for two winger spots seems a bit of a waste. Wouldn't be surprised if B Silva left, either now or in January.

Knowing pep, he'll probably play mahrez upfront or something.
But yea one or two will definitely leave eventually.

Sadly this is one of reasons because modern football is crap
Great player who goes in a club with many other great players. and the rest is always poorest.

Two players for each position doesn't seem that unusual tbh
The amount of money spent to achieve that status maybe though.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
The Mahrez deal means Pep Guardiola has spent £986m on players in 11 years in his managerial career. And £541m of that has been in two years at Man City.

Pretty unbelievable he's spent more at City than he did at Barca and Bayern

Really? City has way more spending power than both imo for different reasons. Bayern won't spend that amount and Barca probably can't. City, meanwhile, not only have serious Oil money behind them but also that sweet Sky money.
My question is was this signing totally necessary or is just a vanity signing?

B Silva didn't really show anything special at the WC, can see why he eats bench at city as it is

Re: Mahrez for POTY
On twitter I saw a stat of Mahrez, has played 37 games in all competition for City were he played 90 mins, City record is 35-2-0, while Mahrez has 17 G + 24 A = 41 G+A contribution in those 37 games.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
He contributes so much more then goals and assists. His first touch basically opens up the field and his 1v1 dribbling is so hard to stop. It’s tough to mark him unless you put two guys on him at all times cause his first touch is so good and he’s not as one footed as people think. This is why city face 5 defender formations to stifle sterling and mahrez.. but then that opens up space for the others. Not to mention mahrez’s first time crossing and passing has raised a level this year.
His only issue was selfishness and not defending. Both changed this season and his overall fitness is better. Pep made him much better.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
Mahrez is highly underrated in this forum.
Personally not a fan yet objectively he is a wizard when he at his best. Where he fails does stifle his chances in being truly a top player since he suffers from tunnel vision at times yet as a whole a game changer most of his career and definitely for Algeria as well.

I'm his biggest critic, but even I can't troll after that performance. He's stepped it up in a big way recently and is one of the key reasons they're in the CL finals. He toyed with them tonight.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
I said that jokingly in the other thread If Man C player wins it it will prolly be De Bruyne... imagine if Mahrez though, he would have to score in the final and continue his form going into next season for that chance to happen. Would be like him winning Leicester the league 2.0

Definitely. That's what you call natural talent. He doesn't rely on speed which is what 90% of today's wingers depend on.
He might be moody but when he is on his game there is hardly anyone better.

Re: Mahrez for POTY
I never had an opinion on Mahrez. In the back of my head I knew he was good but he's been actually immense in CL this year.
Many players in this City team were outstanding; Walker, Dias, Stones, Gundogan, KDB, Foden, Ederson and even Zinchenko (so basically the whole team lol) but Mahrez gave them the edge and absolutely molested PSG's left-wing. This City team is just a well-oiled machine, although I do agree with @Firenze that it may be so because other big dogs are worse than in recent years. Still, a great job by Pep who also has more haters than lovers on this board and will ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT undermine any of his success.
