Interestingly no Sakho, Lucas, or Markovic on the bench
I'd hate for us to lose any of the 3. I think Rodgers is pushing Sakho out of Liverpool. How can he not even make the bench ahead of Kolo is beyond me.

I was very surprised to see Origi (and to some extent Kolo) on the bench. But this could be a long season and those three will get lots of matches.Don't call me James wrote:Interestingly no Sakho, Lucas, or Markovic on the bench

Clyne was probably our most involved player and best defender. I thought Lovren played really well too though. Coutinho is great love Milner's tenacity. 3 points!!

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
Coutinho to the rescue once again with a great goal.
We would have been singing a different song if not for that goal. The truth is, it was a poor match, it really looked like the manager wanted a draw, Benteke was much isolated and only few players got up the field during an attack.
Well, positives from the game; the defence and midfield looked solid, mignolet was good, I also think firmino did well the brief moments he got the ball, and of course, the three points.
Very handy away win, since our next six away matches against the league top five will be brutal.

tbh I think the hard away games at the start of the season could be a good thing. the players will need time to gel and will drop points and be hit and miss for a month or 2. so if we are to drop points its better to do it in the hard games away from home. if the team clicks in the 2nd half of the season then its better the hard games are out of the way.

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
Also since the team will still be gelling it's not a bad thing to play away matches against the tough teams before they get into midseason form. Everyone will start slowly look at Arsenal losing to West Ham and Chelsea with Swansea. Hell United didn't deserve to win against Spurs either.
Coming away with the 3 points here is big. The team looked a bit disjointed but you could see the right qualities.
I'm also for starting a 4-3-3 and adapting from there if we need to be more offensive. Having a midfield 3 of Can, Henderson and Milner will be tough for any team to deal with.

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
I am so glad that Can got his game in MF. One or two tackles he did were sheer joy to watch.
For Gods sake, I hope BR realises that midfield of Henderson and and Milner is not working. We need a three man midfield. Not everyone needs to start if you just have them. Henderson made one smart run and he was almost IN. We need to play him higher and Milner too. Hendeson and Milner, when they both press in fron of one more deep midfielder, we would better a unit, both attacking wise and defensive too.
Lallana, please keep him for Europa League away games with Ings. He takes so much time on the ball sometimes, it kills me with frustration.
Gomez really impressed me. He looked raw but he had the confidence and ability to bring the ball out of the backline. Amazing gem we have found for such a low fee. He still needs to improve a lot but he has time by his side. I think we should not rush him into every game, like Europa League and blah blah..
Coutinho gets frustrated when there are not runners in fron of him. I would really say, Ibe should proveide width but he should make more runs like a SS. With Benteke there, Coutinho on the left and Ibe making runs in between...now that would be a lot to handle for opposition, when Milner and Henderson are also behind there.
Firmino, we will see more of him later in this season imo. In EPL, he might take time to settle IN. But he has Europa League to shine.
Clyne was also good. But both fullbacks were little conservative today. That was part of the playn probably. I would like him to get more involved in attack with Ibe there.
With Skrtel and Lovren, we are going to have fun this season. Now hopefully the fun part ends something like 3-2 or 2-1 for us everytime. So much chaos

Okay so apparently Sakho's wife also had a baby this past week so Sakho has been preoccupied with that.
Makes a bit more sense that Lovren started.

well in that case, it seems like BR had preplanned that Sakho would have been unavailable so he started Lovren in preseason games also

Going to be another long season........
Take out Coutinho's stunner and we were average as hell lmao.
Embrace 'inho for another year, he might be pushing for a move to play with Luisito and Neymar.

Haters gonna hate. Lovren gonna step up.
Definitely. The result this year away at Stoke is pretty much identical to last season's. Let's start planning the pity party.

Come on mate, it's the first game and frankly we didn't have a proper pre-season. We will improve. Now put on smileRed Alert wrote:Going to be another long season........

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
Also, for all the hate Lovren gets...
Starts the season off with a near MotM performance and a clean sheet. Skrtel looked much, much shakier.
In an ideal world I think Rodgers should be looking at trying to do a Lovren/Sakho partnership. Get them to work together and I'd be happy.
2013/14 - Sakho 17-games 26-conceded. ave = 1.52
2014/15 - Sakho 16-games 23-conceded. ave = 1.44
2014/15 - Lovren 22-games 28-conceded. ave = 1.27

Doesnt Lovren has the highest number of defensive errors and highest number of errors leading to a goal stat as well along this?

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
Lovren definitely had a better game but I am going to wait at least half a season before I say, he should be a definite starter ahead of Sakho.
That 'goals conceded' stats is misleading. Sakho also plays passes which contribute to attack, called key passes. I dont have the time to collect the stats but I am sure it would be there somewhere.

You don't need to collect them, you need to dig/find them #Opta

I think that Skrtel probably has more errors than anyone and own goals, but I'm not sure. Again, I would prefer Lovren/Sakho find a way to play together.

Re: Stoke City v Liverpool
Lovren had the highest errors leading to goals by like matchday 10 than anyone else got all season. It was some insane stat.
One decent game still hasn't changed anything in my view. He's an absolutely shit player. Benefited so much from Gomez playing LB. If that was Moreno, Lovren would have had an awful game.

Gomez had a really rough game as mentioned by pretty much everyone and was lucky Lovren covered for him on multiple occasions.
