First game I'm considering buying a ps5 for
IGN: 9/10
GameSpot: 8/10
Games Radar: 9/10
Kotaku, The Verge and Polygon reviews weren't overwhelmingly positive either.
Definitely a decent game, not sure if its GOTY though.
Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
Those are still positive reviews
Via metacritic: 91 positive, 4 mixed, 0 negative
No clue about GOTY. Didn't mean to imply that it's a contender .

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
You're right. In a literal sense they are overwhelmingly positive.
I always had the feeling overwhelmingly positive meant 9/10 and above. Which is why I disagreed.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
It will most likely be a GOTY contender, big release, top reviews, and a few of them are already calling it an early contender. There will be other like Elden Ring and God of War coming asap too so this year will be stacked.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
Probably would have Day 1'd it if it wasn't for Elden Ring. Might play this in 6 months

This month is pretty nuts.
Dying Light 2, Sifu, Horizon all reviewed at least "good".

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
Been on a slow run of playing the best PS4 games in catching up in Last of US II and now the unreal Red dead 2 so wondering if I play Horizon I if it will feel like a downgrade.
Cause II is getting some lovely reviews and looks like the perfect sequel so on the fence about that.

I think you'll like it a lot, we seem to share some thoughts on open world games. I played it after God of War(ps4) and before Witcher 3, I'd say this is the level of game. Top 5 PS4 games for me.

I played Horizon, TLOU2 and RDR2 in quick succession and personally i have to say the first one is many levels below and i didnt enjoy it very much. Maybe it's just me though because everyone seems to love it

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
Funny I played GoW right after TLOU 2 and I couldn't keep myself engaged at all.
Might get it on PC when on sale and have another go at it later.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
It really comes down to personal preference, I still have to play TLOU2. Bought it on sale a while back but Witcher 3 took 1 million hours.
There is also the PS5 version of Cyberpunk out now.

Cannot agree there.
I did the same in going from Last of Us II to currently now RDR2 and while RDR2 is definitely more my type of game (its overall style, not open world) Last of Us is technically the most marvellous game I have ever played. Nearly perfect if we were not thrown to fucking Abby out of nowhere after building Ellie up.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
It wasnt really my point but to comment on that i think the level of detail in RDR2 is more impressive compared to TLOU2 mainly due to the fact that it's a way more expansive and open game so it's harder to maintain the detail that it has.
They're different types of games but in general terms I rate them both very high and close to each other in terms of enjoyability while Horizon is way beeeehind, is my point.

Same here, Horizon's weak point is its story and characters, it's a fine game but it didn't grip me as much as RDR2 and TLOU2.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
The gameplay for Horizon is a lot more enjoyable for me than TLOU2. The world building as well. The story isn't that great for either. Horizon's side quests and its characters were the weakest point.
Never really got into RDR2 so can't comment on that but GOW is better than all of them for me

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
I really liked Horizon's world building and story. Best thing about the game for me. Up there with the combat and the visuals. The characters outside a couple like Aloy and Sylens were weak, the side quests were mostly underdeveloped, a couple good ones a bunch of worthless ones.
Playing Firbidden West now. Only at the very beginning but its already clear they addressed those issues. In one hour of play Varl is a better character than he was in Zero Dawn. Same for basically every secondary character a few hours after. People that I barely remember, or I didn't remember at all, now seem much better.
Doing a couple sidequests and in proper Witcher 3 style, I did a side quests about getting a frying pan and it was still engaging.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
12 hours so far. Done as many side stuff as i’ve done main stories so far.
The first game side stuff outside exploring was shit. This game looks like it’ll be my first game to 100% since RDR2.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
The side quests and characters are noticeably better, as is the general exploration.
Which i think is fair to say were weaknesses of the original.
I also really like how deep the skill trees are, I'm focusing on melee, stealth, bow skills atm but we'll see how the game progresses.
Outside of these significant improvements the stuff the game was good at also is much better imo.
I'm about 15 hours in so far.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
8 hours in. Focusing on Stealth and Hunter with a bit of Survivor.
So far pretty much every aspect of the game has improved. The visuals are next level, playing this on a 4K, HDR, QLED tv looks incredible. The facial animations, the dialogue, the characters, everything feels next gen. Conversations feel much more "natural" than they usually do in open world games. I also like that the game is completely a sequel, it wastes no time with reintroductions and goes right to the important matters, it might alienate new players but its great for pacing.
Just got to the forbidden west, wanting to turn back and do more sidequests though.

40 hours in & very close to the main story yet there's still a fuckton to do outside of the many story. Luckily nothing feels like a chore *cough* AC.
Will get back to the side stuff after Elden Ring.

PS5 here.
I hear its still great in PS4. If you do plan on getting a PS5 I would wait and play it on that. It's a real next gen experience.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
I just cannot imagine compromising to a lesser generation for a game clearly made for the PS5 and I advise no one do that let along invest in a 4K TV as these little add-ins add up to a storm of a difference.

Re: Horizon: Zero Dawn
I've been extremely busy lately but finally have been getting some time to game again.
I'm like a day or two away from the platinum in HFW. I'm leaving the last trophy to be the one of completing the story so I still don't know how it ends.
Amazing game. Ridiculous level of detail, gorgeous, improvement of almost everything over Zero Dawn except maybe the story. The mystery of ZD was great. It's an excellent sequel.
