Blatter:

"I have thoroughly thought about my presidency and the 40 years FIFA has played in my life. I love FIFA more than anything else and I only want do to the best. I decided to stand again for election for the good of football.

"My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody. This is why I will call an extraordinary meeting. I will organise extraordinary congress for a replacement for me as president. I will not stand. I am now free from the constraints of an election. I will be in a position to focus on profound reforms. For many years we have called for reforms. But these are not sufficient.

"We need a limitation on mandates and terms of office. I have fought for these changes but my efforts have been counteracted. FIFA's interests are dear to me. That's why I have taken this decision. What counts most for me is the institution of FIFA and football around the world."


Apparently, the next FIFA congress that was due in May will now be between December and March, and they'll determine a new president then.

Runs for election, takes the majority of votes, forces Prince Ali to withdraw from the election, therein, his candidacy becomes void.

Well, I hope it won't be Platini or Beckenbauer. Too dubious for my taste too. IMO they really need to do some structural changes first to weed out at least part of the corruption.

I think blatter knew it was only a matter of time before the FBI would knock on his door. that's why he has left now.

Not really excited until we find out his successor, but definitely shocked. Only in FIFA do you resign three days after being reelected

If you think this stops the FBI, you don't know how they work...  i think this allows Blatter to start negotiations with the FBI where he outs a lot of people and gets his potential sentence/fines reduced or suspended maybe depending on how much info he gives.

There after Blatter and they won't give up, resignation or not. Blatter knows it's a matter of time.
