Somehow, Galaxy take the 3 points against Seattle.
Penedo clearly MOTM.

Much better from Chicago tonight. Accam looks like he could be the player who makes this team work. That said, New York City FC made this match easy for us with their disastrous play in the first half.

Nick Sabetti
@nicksabetti
If Bush card stands, Impact keen on loaning in Sean Johnson from Chicago. Other options include Josh Saunders (NYCFC) Stefan Frei (SS) #IMFC
Jeff Carlisle
@JeffreyCarlisle
Chicago Fire spokesperson has confirmed to me the legality & possibility of short term loan of Sean Johnson to Montreal for CCL match.

Yea, after talks they determined the deal couldn't go through, so instead Montreal have signed Indy Eleven's keeper.

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
Good game on in the CONCACAF Champions League Final 2nd leg between Montreal and America.
Impact up 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate). America has dominated after the early goal, but Montreal don't look too bad on the counter. Missed a ridiculously good chance just now.
60,000 at this game...biggest crowd ever for Canadian football.

So, it's going to be 10 years, since the last non-mexican team won the CONCACAF Champions league.

Superior quality of America finally taking its toll. CONCACAF refereeing will be a talking point again, though.

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
America with simply better quality in this one. The loss of their starting keeper will no doubt be a talking point for Montreal, but they were always the underdog nonetheless and played like it.
Question: Does this make a better case for loosening the salary restrictions in MLS? you get the feeling, no MLS club will win the CCL otherwise.

How strict can it be when Kaka is being payed 7m? Is everybody else on that team playing for peanuts?

yes.Rebaño Sagrado wrote:How strict can it be when Kaka is being payed 7m? Is everybody else on that team playing for peanuts?
Ok so how it works is this. Each team gets 3 DP slots. These dps can be paid any amount of money at all. However they count against the cap as 400k. The entire roster has to fit under $3.4m. Once you fill the three spots no one can make more than 400k individually. But the cap is so low that most players only make around 100-200k. So kaka, as orlandos only DP makes more than double his entire team COMBINED
This is why we lose to Mexico all the time. It will take a miracle to win it until the cap comes WAY up. Our player payment system isn't designed to make competitive rosters, it's designed from a marketing standpoint so the league can sign big name players to boost noteriety, sell jerseys and put butts in the seats

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
I agree, the way the salary cap, DP thing works is completley screwed up. They need to find a better solution cause the way it's set up just doesn't make any sense and it hurts the MLS
then again if they get rid of the salary cap, then only the big market teams will ever be competitive (like MLB), they just need to figure out a better format for compensation

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
But wouldn't some teams still try and make the big bombshell signings, even without the salary cap? Is that dp, so they focus more on those type of signings, instead of building a squad?

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
Teams like NYCFC, LA Galaxy, Orlando, Seattle, NYRB, and Toronto would certainly still make those big signings without the cap. For sure
The problem would be that they would all be ridiculously better than EVERYONE else. The revs, Dallas, Chicago, RSL, SKC, etc, couldn't or at least wouldn't compete financially, and the league wants balance more than it wants quality. The way it works now the difference between the worst team and the best team is smaller than any other league in the world, so bus parking or antifootball doesn't really happen like it does elsewhere. I mean if Seattle or la lose 1 or 2 guys one week for injuries, it's open season on them. Teams have no bench or depth really. And that helps random outcomes which the league likes
Mls kind of operates like it's only as good as its worst team. So the movement on how much the cap goes up is really slow to protect them. Mls really is focused more so on attendance, ratings, building stadiums and signing sponsorship deals. Overall team quality is like the 7-10th thing they are even worried about
To me I think they should allow teams to spend more for the ones who can afford it, and if Dallas or New England can't afford to keep up maybe they don't deserve to own mls teams, but the owners don't quite see it that way I guess, because it will be hard to get big pocket owners in certain areas if they aren't competitive any longer due to price

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
I get the fact they want a league based on parity, like theNFL, but the NFL and the other American leagues don't have worry about competing leagues. The main focus of the league right now should be to improve the quality of football being played. I get that big stars attract a lot of casual viewers, but I think they could focus on attracting a permanent audience instead.

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
I think removing the cap is probably a long term goal. It's likely not viable right now because the league is still growing, still establishing itself on the American landscape and world stage. When it gets to a phase where it can afford to sacrifice it's balance for quality (maybe completely the divisional pyramid to include progression/relegation will help motivate some of the smaller clubs to get more creative with how they bring talent), then I think we'll see that cap come off and this league become a bit more like the European ones.

Re: 2015 MLS Thread
Probably the biggest game of the regular season next week. NYCFC vs. Red Bulls at RBA next weekend. The red bulls pretty much threw the game against us last night by resting most starters, pretty much played a 70% youth squad.
Should be great though

Feilhaber ridiculously good today against us. Obviously there are calls for him to come back into the National team setup, but I dunno.
