Although, note how the word pretty is given it's usual meaning (attractive) instead of CB's use of the word as something to temper what he says. I put it to each of you that all 3 words are completely useless if they are used in that second way. They add no meaning to the sentence. Instead they detract from what you're trying to communicate.

E.g. Compare:

CB: It's pretty hot outside.
Kick: Indeed, it is hot outside.
Red Alert: It's quite hot outside.
Forza: It's hot outside.

Clearer message. Fewer words. Plain speaking.

My English is littered with useless words like that. Take, for example, how many times i throw in crap like "and all" after I say things.

There is a very interesting line between being concise and using "useless" words like "pretty" or "quite". I enjoy those words but there is a definite (use of definite here, btw, is completely unnecessary) time when those words become excessive and detract from the post.

I say 'or something' even when I'm very definite about something to make it more casual .
