Absolutely loved American Gangster as well. Good mention Dante. Forgot to add it in my honorable mention list. And Ocean's Eleven is one of the best heist movies of all time

I haven't seen quite a few of the movies that are consistently popping up - never actually seen The Departed, Memento or American Gangster and I still need to watch a few important films from the decade like The Last King of Scotland and Syriana but here is my list in no particular order:

Downfall
The Lord Of The Rings
The Lives Of Others
The Prestige
There Will Be Blood
3 Idiots
Frost/Nixon
The Damned United
Up!
Bourne Trilogy

Bah gawd! Forot that GOAT of a film. A 8.5/10 at least.
Though I wouldn't say it's on top of the rewatch list as its extremely long. And I don't generally like my crime films that long.

RG, nah not seen Elephant yet.
I tell what I have seen though...

Having thought some more, I'm inclined to alter my list to include No Country For Old Men and Pan's Labyrinth but I won't do an official update until I've watched a few other films that might well also make the list.

speaking of which , wouldn't it be a better idea to list which of the 00s considered to be among the best(or legit good movies we wanted to see but haven't so far) we haven't watched ?

i'm pretty sure i've left some of these waiting for too long now which i've always wanted to see , but left it for tomorrow for just about any reason hmm

City of God
Syriana
The Pursuit of Happyness
Road to Perdition
Slumdog Millionaire
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Munich
Big Fish
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Pride & Prejudice

particularly City of God , Munich and Road to Perdition , i cannot honestly answer myself why i haven't sat down to watch these movies already . We have 2015 ffs. -solid recommendations welcomed of course-

Just watched 'Wild Card' with Jason Statham in it, I enjoyed the brutal action scenes but it was such a strangely quiet film in the sense it just happened. You barely realised there was a main story and then all of a sudden it was over.

the parodies Laughing

been a while since i last saw Downfall , but it's one high quality movie . Bruno Ganz nailed it ffs .

In general lines there was pretty strong acting all over the place , the setting and all were deeply convincing and the atmosphere was one of the most legit you could experience in any war movie

absolute classic

Asian Departed hmm i'll include it in the ever growing to watch list

Haven't seen the bolded ones . MR , i've seen maybe the first 20m and i didn't like it all hmm

can't say anything more than that though , might have been a mistake to drop it. Had a dvd somewhere for years and never sat down to watch it. You know , that dvd which is all over the place , always available , you stumble upon it all the time , somehow always leaving it for tomorrow ? I sat down to watch it once but i couldn't take it

you don't just sit down and watch that dvd

Same. I first saw this in high school history class and I thought it was a top movie. I've seen it since and it holds up. The parodies were awesome to begin with, but now they've become a bit stupid.
