Why can't players just say that they believe they're 'one of the best in the world' and leave it at that?

I don't watch him much but I do know he flopped on the biggest stage there is, you can't be the 6th best player in the world if you do that.

4th/5th wheel at RM and stat paddling? He was arguably their 2nd best attacking player last season.

Hazard 2 goals- 1 assist.

Di Maria 3 goals 3 assists.

Then taking into consideration Di Maria missed 2 of our opening matches, is in a new team, new league. He's already shown more to his game than a player who has been in the league for 3 years now.

Take those blue tinted specs off.

Except for the fact that anyone with eyes knows Di Maria is a few notches above Hazard right now.

Di Maria in addition to being an actual winner and a great champion is already out preforming Hazard despite playing less games lol. The gap will only get bigger once Angel finds out how many scrub teams there are in England.

Do people genuinly know the meaning of carrying a team? Smh, just an example for u gil, cr7 (this season), messi (for 2012/13 season) neymar for santos (2010-2013, infact in 2012 santos played 16 without him and lost 9 and drew 3),ronaldo nazario (98 league, uefa cup) ibra (for ac milan in 2011), maradona boca juniours (78-81), henry (05-06 season) these are to name a few..most of the other things we see/hear/percieve are just a combination of the right players being there at the right time (france 98, la decima win with bale and cr7, the 2004 invincibles with henry, falcao 12/13 season with atl madrid), and team chemistry (i.e messi 2009, spain 2008-2012, germany 2014). These are the things people/fans see and pick out a best player on those teams and say they 'carried' the team..they're more or less the cherry on the cake..trust me, when hazard can nearly do that, we'll help you blow his trumpet.. If he has one.

Lets stop pretending Di Maria was a factor in the CL until the final.

In order of importance it was

1. Ronaldo
2. Ramos
3. Modric
4. Pepe (dat Allianz performance remains legendary)
5. Bale
6. Alonso
Then Benz and ADM tied for 7th.

He built up a ton of hype on the basis of his two games against Barca alone. The "assist" against Atleti was the cherry on top. Didn't he miss an almost crucial pen against BVB as well? Laughing

Yes but Xabi was by far our best performer in the first leg of the Bayern game. Infact that was the best game I saw him play in a Madrid shirt. We also saw the difference between our team on the field last season with him and without him, in the Dortmund game. He was the real turning point for us, not Di Maria. And I agree, the argentine was instrumental in the final, but he was bad vs Dortmund(his penalty miss could have been decisive) and good but not great vs Bayern(he played RW in the first leg)

Call it bias or whatever I'm simply offering some perspective on Di Maria's skewed performances. After several inconsistent years he plays well against Barca and suddenly he's "untouchable". The fact that some of you actually consider him the 2nd best player in the La Decima run is utterly laughable. I even heard several people claiming he was Argentina's best player in the World Cup until his injury. Laughing

As for his PL performances. The goal against Leicester was special and so was the one against Everton but lets not forget a good proportion of those goals/assists were mishit shots or crosses. He's had a great start but he's also been very fortunate so far.

I think in terms of overall play Hazard is the PL's standout player so far. Statistically and impact wise it could be either one of Costa or Cesc but the fact that Hazard was the man in the big games means he shades it for me. The stats to back up his current play will eventually come, Palace is a great time to start.
