WWE officially announced at tonight's SmackDown tapings in Philadelphia that the 2015 Royal Rumble pay-per-view will take place from the Wells Fargo Center from Philly. The Rumble will take place on January 25th. Tickets go on sale this Friday but apparently they were available to fans at tonight's tapings.

It was also announced that there will be a 40-man Royal Rumble match again this year.

We noted yesterday that The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that TNA officials had reached out to CM Punk through an intermediary and made a major offer for him to come to the company.

For what it's worth, PWInsider reports that TNA sources they spoke to say there is no truth to the report on Punk. One commented, "No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary - no truth to that rumor."

They also confirm the report from a Reddit user earlier this week that while Punk was in attendance for the Ohio Valley Wrestling event over the weekend, he was never in the locker room. Punk arrived earlier in the day and went right into OVW owner Danny Davis' office.

Well, this sounds deeply intriguing. Per a recent report, Hulk Hogan has been pushing for a match against John Cena at next year's WrestleMania 31 event.

As Dave Meltzer notes in this week's (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Hall of Famer is keen to work with Cena at the Santa Clara show. To many fans, Hogan vs. Cena is a dream match. To see two of the biggest babyface stars in wresting history face off in a singles bout at WrestleMania would be quite the spectacle—and likely a huge draw on pay-per-view.

No wonder Hogan is eager to do the match. It would be the ideal platform on which to end his legendary in-ring career. Certainly, it's rather depressing to think that his last-ever in-ring bout was in the underachieving TNA promotion. The promo work between the pair would surely be great too. Cena's a terrific talker—when given the right material, of course—and, even at 61, Hogan is still one of the the most vibrant and charismatic personalities around.

However, as mentioned, Hogan's health is a major obstacle.

Even if he could pass a physical test, there remains doubt about how good he could be in the ring. OK, so no one is expecting the veteran to go in there and start bumping around like Seth Rollins or anything. Nor would anyone be looking for the pair to deliver a classic, highly technical bout. But any potential Cena vs. Hogan match would have to meet an acceptable standard, especially if it's going to be a focal point of the card.

No doubt WWE has too much respect for Hogan and his legacy to allow him to go out there and possibly embarrass himself on such a major stage.

Don't really care if Cena/Hogan happens, as long as it's not the main event.

Imo there's a good chance Cena could turn heel if Ambrose/Reigns/Rollins/Bryan/Orton/Wyatt are all the established top stars by then.

Lesnar is not scheduled to make his return to WWE until January to begin promoting his Royal Rumble title defense, which is expected to be against John Cena.

- There's a possibility that Hulk Hogan and Sting could both wrestle their last matches at WrestleMania 31. Hogan has still been pushing for a match against John Cena next year and if he could pass a physical, Hogan may wrestle his retirement match. Cena's WrestleMania 31 match may be locked in already but they could always come up with something else for Hogan.

Sting has indicated that he is looking to do one more match as well. Hogan and Sting both wrestling their last matches could be a big sell for WrestleMania tickets and buys. Hogan will be almost 61 at that time and Sting turns 56 the week of the show. It's a long shot but possible, although both likely wouldn't be branded as retirement matches.
