Re: 2014/15 Winter Transfer Rumours
Obviously Shaqiri is a very good player, but so are Sterling and Coutinho and we just paid £25m for Lallana. It wouldn't make sense to buy Shaqiri to compete with them, too.

You should probably post this in the Calcio thread rather than the transfer rumors onemarottalad wrote:Simply an observation here. Under the few games Mancini has managed Inter are starting to look like somewhat of a team again. They are not in that much of a crisis as some people like to think, they have good young players like icardi and kovacic and some great senior players handanovic, hernanes, guarin and podolski. Add Shaqiri to the list and they actually look like a champions league 3rd spot team.
The problem for Inter will be holding onto their star players. And if they do sell their young guns can they actually replace them properly? Inter in 2010 suffered because they brought in the wrong players and they just seemed to wing it they had no real project.

It's relevant to the discussion also people need to realise with thoir inter actually have less debt now so their not totally irrelevant to the transfer market

Ok. I was just saying because you're more likely to get a thoughtful response there rather than it being buried amongst the transfer rumors once MT comesmarottalad wrote:It's relevant to the discussion also people need to realise with thoir inter actually have less debt now so their not totally irrelevant to the transfer market

sportsczy wrote:Now, tell me what has Sterling accomplished as the main attacking player again? Anything of note or is it all hype so far? Good player but Shaqiri is actually a better player than Sterling imo... he's a powerful version of Coutinho if you want to compare him to someone on Liverpool.
He was the best, most consistent, performer over a 15 game stretch to end the season and push for a title (along with Coutinho). He then stepped up to the English NT and gave a lot of spark to it though with that manager........
You're using one game and a tournament in which Shaqiri wasn't even his team's best player (Rodriguez was) whereas he's never performed consistently at the level Sterling has since the midpoint of last season. Sterling can also play anywhere from rightback to striker and perform well at it.
On top of this Shaqiri is really not similar to Coutinho.
Anyway, it's a moot point. He probably goes to Inter and Liverpool weren't bidding on him. Would he be a good addition to the team? Yes, having more talented players is always a good thing, but Liverpool has more pressing issues.

Just had to highlight this
I do personally prefer Sterling to Shaqiri, but it should be noted I only really saw him at the WC where I thought he was being over rated.

When Shaqiri was Sterling's age, he had already won the Swiss league twice as a starter with Basel and had been named Swiss player of the year.
Of course, Basel is not as good a team as Liverpo.. oh wait

that's not as good as being the most consistent performer in a 15 game streak, being best player in a mid table team, and being the best player during madrid CL whoop ass
respectfully, imo

I do agree with his conclusion that Liverpool would be better off spending money elsewhere though.

I like Sterling very much, but it's clear that RG is asking the wrong, and sportszy the right question.

To be honest, I think it's FSGs fault.
Well, not solely FSGs fault. They're really inexperienced when it comes to football so don't really know any better. They've backed the wrong manager twice now.
Dalglish is no doubt a club legend, but letting him spend 100m+ to build his team only for him to last one season? (He was always going to let go, he was appointed under Commolli, FSG always wanted a 'young' manager.)
Then they decided to sign and back Rodgers...
Just hoping Rafa comes back in the summer ffs.

Re: 2014/15 Winter Transfer Rumours
I'd say Sterling is slightly better than Shaqiri right now only because Shaqiri has stagnated on Bayern's bench and Sterling has progressed loads in the last year or so. He's also 3 years younger. They both have the same ceiling though, amazing talents. Would welcome Shaqiri with open arms. Still can't believe we made Lallana the primary target over him ffs.

Was Shaqiri ever European Golden Boy? I rest my case.
It doesn't matter, Coutinho has a higher ceiling than either of them and is better than either when he is on.

I know a few Bayern fans (match going, season ticket holders) and they all hate Shaqiri and can't wait to get rid

Maybe it's because he wants to leave them and is pushing for a move?

Re: 2014/15 Winter Transfer Rumours
Hans has said he wants to see Shaqiri go, but not for lack of talent, but because he is becoming a pain in the ass complaining about his playing time
can't blame him for wanting to play more...but he should of foreseen this when he chose to move to Bayern with players like Ribery and Robben ahead of him.

Re: 2014/15 Winter Transfer Rumours
The funny thing about Shaqiri's situation is that when he joined Bayern a few years back, it was clear as a day that he was going to be behind Ribery and Robben and was one for the future. Now that Ribery is about to turn 32 and Robben 31 and Shaqiri could be getting pretty close to replacing one of them (Ribery) in the XI, now he wants to leave. It's like waiting for a few hours for the plane and then walking out of the airport 10 minutes before boarding.
