Wilshere and Welbeck start for England against Switzerland in what could possibly be a diamond. Chambers and Chamberlain on the bench.

Welbeck: two nicely taken goals after one bad cut-back in the first half that should've found either Rooney or Sterling. Most impressive thing was how he was still running with pace and purpose at the end of the game. Think we'll really benefit from his mobility.

Wilshere: played at the base of the diamond and had a quiet game. Didn't see a lot of the ball in the game and wasn't tested too much defensively. Played one fantastic pass to Rooney from deep in the first half, and got a shot away after a nice one-two in the second. Subbed after 70 mins for Milner.

Chambers and Chamberlain both unused subs.

Watch Wenger banter us off by playing Sanogo as the CF and Welbeck on the wing against City.

Looking forward to counter-attacks involving Ozil, Alexis, Walcott and Welbeck. Proud

So far, only Ozil is an injury doubt, as far as I know. Ramsey and Alexis play tomorrow, so we'll be keeping fingers crossed they come through unscathed. No more players on international duty until next month after that.

Welbeck has now 10 Goals in 28 Caps for England
overall 1715 minutes played
so 1 goal in just less than 2 games on average
not bad

I am still trying to figure out if Wenger even wanted Welbeck.
Does not make any sense that he still has not had the time to speak publicly about our new signing. Not sure I have ever known of a signing where the manager did not talk about it for over a week. Took what a few hours with Ozil last year. Maybe until the next morning with all other signings.
Starting to wonder if this was a Board vs Wenger decision.

Really pleased for Welbeck. Disappointed with Wilshere (again) but hopefully he improves with games.

Think v City we'll see:

Arteta Ramsey
Alexis Cazorla Chamberlain
Welbeck

But we'll see. Can't see Ozil being fit in time. Rosicky playing 2 90-minutes for Czech.

The widespread handwringing about Wenger's silence just strikes me as imagination for idle minds in the international break, nothing more. Wenger will say what he wants to say re: Welbeck in a few days.

And they covered the deal in the first eight minutes of the Arsecast Extra a couple days ago ... wasn't a Board vs Wenger case at all according to Gunnerblog. The only reason people would even think otherwise is because it happened late and now Arsene, on an Interlull when he's been doing other things, isn't rushing to make a statement when he has plenty of time to do precisely that.

It's really not even an issue as I see it, let alone a big deal.

It's nonsense. People are hatching up this conspiracy theory because Wenger hasn't given some routine comments on a new signing, disregarding that Wenger has the final say on every transfer the club makes. What, is Wenger doing some sort of silent protest against the signing? Is he going to ostracise Welbeck completely because he doesn't want him? Come on, now.

This without considering the fact that board haven't got the stones to do anything over Wenger's head, let alone spend £16mil on a player he doesn't want.

In the spirit of the above two posts, I'd like to remind you all that there's no way the board would do something like this because past experience already tells us that Wenger has the final say.

Would they really pull out of the Higuain deal, which was supposedly done and dusted bar a bit more that Real wanted, because it was Wenger's decision but then sign Welbeck behind his back? We've seen it time and again, when Wenger doesn't want someone, it doesn't happen.

What we have not seen before is for Wenger to not have anything to say for almost 10 days. Nothing about Arsenal, Welbeck, National teams or even football, nothing. We have also not ever seen any club sign any rated player without the manager talking about said player. We heard more about Santos, Squalichi, Park, well every other signing than Welbeck.

Anything in it who knows. It is weird enough that we did not hear from Wenger for the last 10 days about anything. Maybe just depression from is contract with TF1 not being renewed.

Chambers, Gibbs, Wilshere and Welbeck all start for England tonight, making Arsenal the most represented club in the startling eleven.

Looks like we're playing a diamond, with Chambers at right back and Wilshere at the base of the diamond.

England 5 - 0 San Marino.

Wele scored the third goal before being subbed off for Townsend in the second half. Has scored seven goals for club and country since joining us.

Wilshere played as the left sided central midfield in the first half and did okay. Linked up well with Gibbs and Welbeck. Second half he played at the base of the diamond and ran the show, finding Rooney at least three times with excellent passes from deep. Granted, it's against San Marino, but he was given man of the match.

Chamberlain came on at half-time and assisted Wele's goal. Looked very bright and improved England's forward play.

Gibbs and Chambers had about two defensive actions between them all game. Gibbs was tidy in position, Chambers less so.

All very positive from an Arsenal perspective.

We play Estonia on Sunday and it's likely at least three of the five will start that one. Then they'll be back at Arsenal on Monday.
