Incident over but 2 people confirmed dead and 3 in 'serious condition' as of right now say CNN.
"You, random strangers I've never met nor will ever see again, don't live the way I do and don't believe in the same invisible man as me, therefore you deserve to die." Sigh.

Well not sure if it's ISIS or a guy pretending to be ISIS for attention.RealGunner wrote:What are ISIS doing in Australia. Wtf
This is just really chilling, you don't associate this sort of thing with Australia, don't think I've ever experienced anything like it before.

Doesn't sound like a Iranian name at all.

Re: The Terrifying Rise of ISIS
Man Haron Monis has been identified as the alleged Sydney hostage taker, a man police saw was a radical Muslim cleric who once taunted the families of dead Australian soldiers.
Monis was reportedly killed as police stormed the Lindt cafe on Sydney’s Martin Place, bringing an end to a hours long standoff. Police said Monis had as many as 15 people hostage inside the cafe.
Man Haron Monis was born in Iran as Manteghi Bourjerdi but moved to Australia in 1996 and changed his name. He gained notoriety in Australia for a persistent protest of Australian troops in Afghanistan, in which he sent hate-filled letters to families of dead soldiers, calling the men “child killers.”
“We sat in our homes, reading these letters… This man accusing my husband of being a child killer,” said widow Bree Till, whose husband Brett was killed by a roadside bomb in 2009.
At the time police say he stormed into the Sydney cafe and took hostages, Man Haron Monis was on bail for being an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife. Police say he organized the murder of Noleen Hayson Pal, a mother of two who was stabbed to death.
Monis was also charged with sexually assaulting seven women while working as a spiritual healer in Wentworthville. He was later charged with 40 additional sexual offenses.
Monis’ former lawyer, Manny Conditsis, told ABC News that Monis appeared to be overtaken by his own delusions.
“His ideology is just so strong and so powerful that it clouds his vision for common sense and objectiveness,” he said.
Authorities say they believe that Man Haron Monis worked alone in the Sydney hostage attack.
“Certainly this appears to be the actions of a lone actor, perhaps not very well prepared, perhaps not very well planned,” Anne Aly, head of the counter terrorism research program at Australia’s Curtin University, told the BBC.
Police have not yet announced how Sydney hostage suspect Man Haron Monis was killed.

Re: The Terrifying Rise of ISIS
Not ISIS related TBH, just a delusional fundamentalist who had nothing to live for whilst on bail.

Re: The Terrifying Rise of ISIS
So it wasn't ISIS related at all.
Although I put it in this thread under the proviso that it was not a confirmed ISIS event, I still apologise. I have to be honest, although I didn't think it was a direct ISIS attack, I did think it may have been ISIS inspired.
His apparent political motivation is still unclear. I think when it boils down to it though his purported motivation is probably irrelevant. It seems clear he was just a mentally unstable man who was acting alone and wanted a lot of attention.
Kudos to most Sydney siders who have gone to the effort of supporting the Muslim community. There have been concerted efforts on social media to let the community know that people understand this does not represent their values with #illridewithyou (to work so you don't get harassed) trending. It's a little bit of a cheesy social media thing but to be honest its great to see, certainly beats hijabis getting verbal or physical abuse and the community feel demonised again. With any forms of media, it only takes one thought from one person that can hit a nerve wit people - its good to see that was one of compassion, understanding and tolerance rather than one of ignorance and intolerance.
Also, a thought for the two hostages that had their lives taken from them, for no reason at all.

Re: The Terrifying Rise of ISIS
Look by all accounts it seemed ISIS related, he was even demanding the police give him an ISIS flag, he was just a looney out on bail.
He was set on bail for involvement in the killing of his wife, his had multiple cases of sexual assault before and he used to send letters to widows of soldiers. The guy is a looney, this isn't even religion related, the Muslim community denounced him, i think.

What PKK is doing against ISIS , their fight against ISIS, should be more mentioned anyway.

A wee bit of melodrama is fine... but an entire section of it nonstop is a bit unbearable.
