And as usual, Meike Kämper is a very confident and self-assured goalie.
Oh, looks as if Pauline Bremer was offside for the goal. Yuck. And once more a ref error in a big tournament...

BTW, just for info - in the first querter final, North Korea edged out USA via penalty shoot-out, so PR Korea will meet the winner of NZL/NIG, while the winner of GER/CAN will meet the winner of FRA/KOR in the semi finals.

Germany should win this. It's quite one sided from what i've seen so far.

Yeah, I think so, too - but I still think it is a bit presumptuous to say we are the winners when it is 1:0 and there are almost 50 more minutes to go.

Goal! 2:0 by Rebecca Knaak. This time it was a mistake by Sheridan.

Nigeria defeated New Zealand 4:1 and will play against North Korea in the semi.
The other quarter final France vs South Korea is still at 0:0 after 90 minutes and now goes to extra time. And still 0:0 after 120 minutes. So now it's penalties. And France wins 4:3 - so the second semi final is France vs Germany!

Did FIFA go ahead and not change the turf? Absolute bullshit that women have to put up with turf at the biggest stage. How expensive could it really be to play with real grass?

Re: FIFA U20 Women's World Cup 2014 in Canada
Well, the U-teams often play on artificial turf anyway. (Not only the gals - AFAIK in Germany many of the training pitches for youth teams are on artificial grass, although I think ours look better than what I saw in Canada so far.) The verdict about the WWC 2015 is still out, I think.
Oh, and by the way - kick-off between Germany and France is in a few minutes. This should be a cracking game.

Re: FIFA U20 Women's World Cup 2014 in Canada
I saw some matches by the U20 WC in Canada a few years ago but I feel like there's an important difference between youth competitions and the best athletes in the game. I can understand why Canada of all places would be pro-turf but at the same time UEFA and FIFA are such sticklers about grass in the CL and WC qualifiers that this screams double standard and sexism.

Re: FIFA U20 Women's World Cup 2014 in Canada
Well, at least for competitions like a senior World Cup they really should keep the standards or they should not give the World Cup to a country where it is not possible to provide stadiums with proper grass and optimum conditions. Although, if we consider Qatar, this is a bit questionable, too.
I wonder if the World Cup 2018 in Russia has all grass pitches, btw. AFAIK the biggest stadium in Russia has astroturf and uses this even in the CL and WC qualifiers (I guess they pay enough bribes for UEFA/FIFA to ignore the problem), as I remember that the German NT (guys version) were not so amused that they had to play on plastic lawn in freezing temperatures for some WC qualifier.
GER - FRA under way. 0:0 after 10 minutes.
12.) 1:0 - Pauline Bremer
Wow, the French have turbo-fast wingers! By now the French gals had three huge chances, two badly missed and the third nullified by a fantastic save by Meike Kämper.
And by now three more saves by Kämper from MSV Duisburg, the last a 1vs1 from 2 or 3 meters. Very good goalie, that!
45.) 1:1 - Griedge Mbock Bathy
No chance for Meike Kämper whatsoever. She's only 1.70m after all.
France are currently playing better than Germany. Dunno what happened to our defense - they're a shambles and only Meike Kämper keeps us in the game.
80.) 2:1 - Lena Petermann
By now the French girls look totally tired. They had to play extra-time in their quarter final, so they have a disadvantage there.
Fun fact: France had 20 shots on goal, Germany had 5 shots on goal, while the score is GER 2:1 FRA. Talk about efficient Germans again (and a fantastic goalie).
FT - GER 2:1 FRA
So this is the third German NT who reached the final of a huge tournament in this summer (WC2014, U19-Euro and now U20-WC)

By the way, the U20 final Nigeria - Germany is well under way, although it is still 0:0 at halftime. Second half will start in a couple of minutes.
The third place match ended North Korea 2:3 France.

Germany U20 vs Nigeria U20 are playing extra time atm, but right now Lena Petermann scored the 1:0 in the 98th minute!
Gotcha! Germany's U20 Women are World Champions, too!

I'm really happy for the gals. They played well and had the heart to succeed. And a great goalkeeper in Meike Kämper. ^^
