Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Yeah it's a lot of money, not sure how we can agree to such a deal, plus the wages he is asking.
I am still convinced that Di Maria just want a better contract, and hopefully pride is put aside so that we can sign him on a new deal and continue with the team as is. When it was ronaldo, we bent over sideways. Di Maria was even more important than him last season, when it mattered the most. he earned it imo.

Nah, people who make their opinion off 2 games are people who watch 4-5 games of James and think he is a false 9. you know, people like you.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Who is calling James a false 9?
People are speculating he could play there but he's never done that with banfield ,porto, Monaco, or Colombia at least as far as I know.
Plus nick stop getting worked up about it. It's the same as when people said Coentrao could play LB, RB, and DM lol just wishful thinking

most people here " conveniently " support big teams from foreign countries and from cities they have absolutely no connection with

it's easy to just "stop " when you're that sort of fan...

i didn't mean it as an insult

but there is a difference between a madrid born ,season ticket holding supporter and a " fan " from the other side of the world who just decided to cheer for the most successful club in history

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
We really don't need Rodriguez. Signing him would mean we switch to a 4-2-3-1 when 4-3-3 worked fine last season.
Plus Di Maria is a better player than Rodriguez and he's vital to our current system. As I said before, there's no need to fix what's not broken.

Agreed with MT
Signing Kroos was fine because he can at least play deep and be a vice Alonso. Links with Gustavo etc also made sense. But James does not make sense at all.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
James doesnt make sense because it's a reaction to ADM wanting to go/new deal. our midfield right now is fantastic, just loan illarra and we are set.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
All of these line ups look disgustingly unbalanced
Like half the team will be standing still, patiently watching when Madrid don't have the ball.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
Only way we'd be able to play Modric and Kroos together is in a 3 man midfield imo.

Re: Official: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid
If we do sign James, which isn't a given atm, then here is my best case scenario for our team under those conditions:
1. Isco continues his development as a CM. Carlo has expressed that he sees Isco's potential as a player who is similar to Seedorf. If this happens as planned then it would be huge for the overall make up of the team.
2. Modric continues to prove that he can hold down a midfield from a defensive stand point. GL doesn't want to admit this, but Madrid won the CL with Modric and Alonso in the middle of the pitch as the more defensive midfielders lol. If someone suggested Madrid do this last summer he might have gotten banned from the forum. This was the biggest success of Carlo's first season imo.
3. CR tweaks his style to fit a two man attack. We saw it work in the 4-4-2 that we used last season and it is probably the best thing for the team overall because you have two players behind him instead of just the one. Plus it would mean he could make the first steps towards extending his career by converting himself into CF.
4. We switch to a formation that Carlo is used to. That being a 4-3-1-2. That "1" in this case is James (assuming he comes to Madrid). James is a number 10 by trade and in this formation he would be exactly that.
5. Benzema is dropped/sold. He ain't starting over Bale/CR.
6. Kroos is able to fully replace Xabi's distribution ability with his short/long passes. He may need to play in a different position but overall the skill we will expect from him will mirror Xabi's.
So with that in mind the formation looks something like this going forward:
------CR----------------Bale-------
---------------James---------------
---------Isco----------Kroos-------
----------------Modric--------------
Marcelo---Ramos---Varane---Carvajal
Now admittedly something like this looks lightweight but again, we beat Bayern and Barca with a midfield of Modric/Alonso/Di Maria which is probably just as light weight.
Also I'm sure the work rate of this team would be questioned. However I'm willing to bet that a lot of these guys would put in a more solid shift than most would expect them to. Whether or not that is enough overall though would only really be confirmed once we actually see it.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying this is what I want to see, just what would make sense considering recent rumors and the squad as it is currently.

that's basically a false 9 formation, CR and Bale inside forwards/false wingers.

Not false 9, a number 10. In that formation most of his time will be in midfield, not in the box.
