Been trying to follow the latest news from this region. Was this latest round of violence not started because Hamas killed 3 innocent kids who wondered too far from home? Israel were always going to retaliate to something like that. This is obviously not the right way to respond to something like this, but should we really expect cooler heads to prevail among so much hot-headedness?

The last week something like 98 Palestinians have lost their lives while only 3 Israelis have lost theirs. Palestine has no army, and the Israeli army which is sponsored by USA is killing defenseless people... this is despicable. Something needs to be done here.

Honestly, Obama and Netanyahu are not on the best of terms. Haven't been for some time. This has greatly pissed off the Republicans, who feel we should be supporting Israel completely in everything they do. So while the USA will outwardly say they support Israel, the truth is, we have not supported them anywhere near as much as the Bush Administration did.

This appears to be a repeat of what we've seen before. A rogue terrorist group that just so happens to be Palestinian kills some Israelis and instead of trying to target that group specifically, Israel takes the more general approach to retaliation. I think that's the problem here.

Why are they not working with the Palestinian government to root out and eliminate Hamas as a threat? Is that something the Palestinians would even entertain the idea of doing?

Perhaps it's my own ignorance of the politics of this region, but I feel like there's room for both sides to find diplomatic solutions. They're just content to ignore them.

I think there is too much hate between the population of both these populations to even start a conversation. Palestine would probably help any other government than Israel's is this happened, but the fact that they feel Israel has robbed them of their home country (rightfully so to an extent) makes the possibility of cooperation impossible.

Israel are the terrorists. they kidnap a kid and burn him alive and call Hamas terrorists....

It's funny, Israel is sucking the life out of some people, destroying their home and country, and says if you fight back with some mini rockets we will bomb you and kill your children, and people blame Hamas.

Problem is, everyone including Hamas knows what will happen when it stops its rocket attacks. This is not something new. This happened 2 years ago as well. There is a temporary ceasefire, the world goes back to not caring, and then starts a pretty farce of a round of negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Meanwhile, Israel goes back to expanding and consolidating its illegal territories (before you downvote, USA have pretty much condemned Israel for this as well), while Hamas goes back to stockpiling missiles and arms.

Do you really expect Hamas then to just lay around and accept encroachment on Palestinian territory then? It is quite a vicious cycle here. And Israel has as much to blame for these frequent spikes in violence as does Hamas. But unfortunately, any views expressing even slightly perceived anti-Israel stance is downvoted to oblivion here, so yeah.

There was no trial for it. Hamas denied any responsibility which they could be lying about or not. But it was never proved that Hamas actually kidnapped or killed those 3 teenagers.

The other day I watched a video of a Palestinian baby being dug out of a pile of rubble after an explosion. Still alive. Some men dug him out with their hands.

That image right there is everything that's wrong with the world today. Hope everybody responsible dies a horrible horrible death.

Nope, that's wishful thinking. Saudi will never interfere and nor with any wealthy Middle Eastern country.

Neither Islam nor Arabic is as motivating a factor as people would think for uniting.

The UAR proved as much, albeit on a smaller scale and during more pressing times.

A Moroccan has nothing in common with a Lebanese in terms of heritage, loose cultural and lingual ties, same with a Lebanese to a Saudi or a Syrian to a Libyan etc.

Mideast countries joining together against Israel will never happen, first because every western country will back up Israel in a war, second because Israel is the only country in the middle east who has nuclear weapons, and not just a few, a lots of them. if it happens that Israel feel they're surrounded from all sides, for its own survival they will resort to nuclear attacks and will turn Mideast into radioactive wasteland.

The problem is superpowers and their media. as long as the media supports Israel and feeds twisted facts to people ( specially in US and Europe ) there will be no consequence for Israels crimes.

The only country who has been against Israel is Iran and the consequence has been wars and sanctions.

Americans tend to support Israel because of government propaganda (through the media) but I don't because if you look beyond rhetoric and simply check the facts, its obvious who is the real victim in these constant wars and atrocities. Don't get me wrong, Hamas is not exactly an angelic organization either. However, there have been hundreds of deaths caused by Israel in this most recent ridiculous conflict and it is not an even war at all.

It is always innocent people who will suffer the consequences of war. However, it wouldn't be nearly as bad if people (and governments) actually stood up to Israel and put their foot down.

But then again, I hate to say it, but we Americans should probably focus on cleaning up our own government first before worrying about something going on half way across the world. However, one of those things that needs to be reexamined is our countries unapologetic support of Israel.

Part of the US cleaning up it's own act would come with re-allocating its budget spent on making Israel the world's most terrifying war machine.

Billions per year to kill innocent men, women and children? To deny human beings basic rights and dehumanize millions so that you can force them out and take their land, creating a country filled only with your race?

Someday people will look back at the similarities between Nazi Germany and Israel and be disgusted at how quickly people turn to repeat past mistakes.
