Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
What's with Fred and Jo as his choices as strikers?
What has happened to Alexandre Pato? Luís Fabiano? Vágner Love? Leandro Damião?
He put himself in a tough situation.

I think they are not creative enough. Too much on Neymar's shoulders.
They really don't give Fred anything to work with, you could probably blame him a bit as well as he's not really getting himself in those positions to make it easier for his teammates to find him.
Should've *bleep* called up Coutinho. Willian Paulinho Bernard Jo Hulk Ramires

Yeah, Fred just stands around or he is often offside.
The man is clueless, but Brazil in general seem not to be in sync.

If he wasn't dumb and called up diego costa earlier he wouldn't of had this problem..

I'm not sure that not calling Coutinho is a huge mistake. Good player as Bernard and William are.
Fred and Jo are just not good enough. Sure Fred can finish but it's all on Neymar and co.

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
Jo looked better than Fred to me. Fred is looking like he's expecting the ball arrive on a platter for him to score it. But I'm sure he'll score a couple of goals sooner or later if he keeps his starting spot and people will think he did OK in the tournament.
I'm not impressed by Scolari himself, btw.
Against Mexico Brazil had nothing going on through the middle (unless it was Neymar who had drifted there) and he just kept playing Paulinho as the CM who got forward. There was no creativity through the middle, no key passes, nothing. He's got Hernanes on the bench or could have moved Oscar there.
Furthermore, starting Ramires in Hulk's absence was just negative. Especially since the match - like all of them - are home games for Brazil.
So far the team has been too dependent on Neymar to create a chance or score (well, they're dangerous from set-pieces, too) and looking at their bench (or uncalled players *cough* Coutinho *cough* ) I think he should and could get more out of this squad attacking wise.

Pato is better than all these scrubs ffs...
False 9 formation is the way to go imo. With William on the left and hulk on the right. Oscar-Gustavo-Fernandinho mid

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
Are you watching any of those 4 players you mentioned that Scolari could have picked?
Because if you havent, who do you think is more credible? A coach who does watch them or you who doesnt?

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
Scolari doesn't care about current form... he decided to give the team that won the Confed Cup in 2013 the chance to win the WC regardless of whatever happened in 2013-2014.
If you guys have followed Scolari, you know that he's more stubborn than any coach out there and that he won't change. In fact, the more he gets criticized, the less he changes

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
None of these scrubs is better than Fred.
The problem is the lack of creativity, it seems like it's all on Neymar to create chances. Fred, Oscar, Hulk, Paulinho that's too many goalscorers and not enough creators. I would bring Willian on for Oscar, because his movement is better, he's a lot faster than Oscar and offers more creativity, you lose a goalscorer but that's why you have Neymar/Fred/Hulk there, Paulinho with late runs and even Thiago/Luiz from set pieces. The prospect of Neymar/Willian/Hulk running at you is a scary one, Oscar in there just slows things down for Brazil and weakens the Neymar/Fred/Hulk goalscoring potential imo.

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
I have defended fred a lot but even i have to admit he has been our worst player alongside Paulinho.
Truth is that Fred actually is a good CF, I have never seen him play this bad before, I don't know what's happening.I still trust him to pop in some crucial goal in the next few games though. In the confed cup he also started slow and became a goat goalscorer after the Italy match.Let's wait and see after the R16 when we start facing more open teams.
About the other options, there was no one better really.Pato only started playing well in the past few months.Fabiano would be the best option, at least to replace Jo's place, but as Sports said, Scolari is the most stubborn manager in the world, and he will die without changing his convictions.Hell, I think we will keep seeing the same starting 11 for the rest of the WC.In matter of fact, it's when the press and the fans keep asking for changes that he does the completely opposite just for the hell of it.In the confed cup, the fans kept asking for Lucas in the stadium and after that Lucas got 0 minutes and Bernard always came in instead.

There is no justification for selecting Paulinho ahead of Fernandinho as well. The former had an awful season whereas Fernandinho was one of the best midfielders in the league last season.

This. I remember in 2002 he got the same criticism for not taking Jardel and Elber...

.... sony anderson and juninho too .
i also remember that brazil struggled against costa rica and turkey in the first round, against belgium in the second ,and didn't start firing firing on all cylinders until the quarter finals.
in hindsight , this is a bona fide world cup winning team ... but people were skeptical at the time .
people weren't sure that ronaldo , coming off a 3 years struggle with injury was ready to lead the brazilian attack, especially when scolari didn't take any natural number 9 as back ups .
rivaldo was coming off a terrible season with barcelona, was deemed too old ,and not a good choice to play upfront with R9.
ronaldinho was viewed as inexperienced, hasn't played in a " top league " and just not good enough to play behind the strikers .
gilberto silva was largely an unknown quantity and deemed not good enough to replace the injured emerson .
kleberson who ?
roque LOLior was a laughing stock .
and we know how that one ended....

Re: Could Luiz Felipe Scolari not find anyone better?
tbh we were NEVER convincing in 2002.Not even in the final.
the WC isn't a league where the most consistent team wins, it's like a CL final every game.if the most consistent team won Low would have a trophy by now.

As long as Brazil have Silva, Gustavo and Luiz they have a chance.
Just have to hope Neymar and Oscar stay consistent.

Maybe Scolari could try play Hulk or Neymar through the middle instead of Fred and play Willian on the wing?
