Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
Sportszcy, Switzerland played in the last World Cup in 2010. Shows how ignorant you are about this squad.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
There are 3 decent players on the Swiss team: Inler, Lichsteiner and Shaqiri. That's it. The defense is solid and the midfield and attack are crap. They park the bus and look to counter. That's their whole ammo.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
Yeah. Parked the bus Chelsea style and caught them on a counter. I think they had 20% of the ball that game. Very impressive. Too bad that they could score against Chile and HondurasurbaNRoots wrote:sportsczy wrote:Yeah. My bad. They scored 1 goal and conceded 1 in 3 games, finishing 3rd behind Spain and Chile. Switzerland team is average, not bad but not that good either as some people claim it to be.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
All I know is, for the past 10 years or so. Every time I watch Switzerland play they are stagnate, sit deep and defend. We will see if anything has changed in a few weeks time.
Sure, they always have a chance as they have some decent players and are hard to beat. I personally see Ecuador edging this one.
I dont understand people saying they are stronger than France? Trolling? France are in a good run of form lately. Ribery, Benzema, Lloris, Kos, Varane, Evra, Pogba. I know they can be a bit Jekylland Hyde but come on man.

Lichtsteiner and Whoscored Legend Rodriguez are arguably the best pair of fullbacks in the WC along with Brazil
The chemistry of Napoli pair Inler and Behrami > your midfield
You have a better CB pairing but Schar could be as good as Varane. Ask Rwo if you think I'm trolling.
My main man Sommer > LOLris.
The GOAT Hitzfeld >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> that clown you have in charge
I don't think Sommer starts, it's Diego Benaglio who does.
I do somewhat agree with you. That attacking quatret and fullbacks are strong but that midfield is being overrated. There is a reason Behrami is called Mehrami, he is not all that good. Pogba, Mautuidi, Cabaye is the better midfield. And France do have the betters CBs and attack too while Lloris>Benaglio. Main thing is what urban says, they are really good as a team. Hitzfeld did a great job, they beat Brazil after the Confederations Cup for Christ's sake.

Unfortunately so, barring some injury of Diego Benaglio. Otto Hitzfeld is known to be very conservative in his selections, but I have hopes that the GK position will be shuffeled up once Petkovic takes over the NT.M99 wrote:I don't think Sommer starts, it's Diego Benaglio who does.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
Can anyone do a comparison of the three Swiss midfielders of Napoli - Gokhan Inler, Valon Behrami and Blerim Djemali. How are they different as players and who is how good?

I have some kind of selective memory or just bad memory nowadays But I totally forgot how Switzerland was knocked out, a loss to Honduras, so strange after beating Spain thats for sure, and cant help but thinking conspiracy and match fixing stuff again when I see these types of strange events/results

Switzerland actually have a very good team. Just played with them on Fifa.
Schaar is a really talented CB. High potential. He needs to start over Senderos.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
Fabian Schär will likely not play in the first match against Ecuador. At the moment it looks like Ottmar Hitzfeld will field Johan Djourou, as the Swiss B team won 2:0 against the Swiss A team in a training match behind closed doors and Schär allegedly didn't look too well in that match. (And I still can't understand why Yann Sommer won't play as he is IMO definitely better than Diego Benaglio. ^^)

Antoine Griezmann should beat Olivier Giroud to the final place in the starting 11 for #FRA v #HON tomorrow according to l'Equipe

Yeah... Griezmann practiced at LW for the final practice while Giroud played with the subs.

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
This group kicking off in about 1.5 hours, let's show some love to it.
Switzerland dubbed some sort of dark horses and even group winners ahead of France, but let's see how they'll do against Ecuador... Should be an interesting match.
And speaking about France, they can make a statement by winning big against Honduras later on today.

Honduras play very, very dirty though. I'm just hoping we win and nobody gets injured. Statements don't really mean much until elimination round games...

Re: World Cup: Group E discussion
Yeah was gonna say, if our "friendly" against Honduras was any indication i expect France to be kicked all over the pitch today.
If i was France i'd be happy with a win and no injuries.

German commentator Wolf-Dieter Poschmann on Shaquiri's overhit crosses: "Shaquiri seems to have to much power, somehow he doesn't get it done properly. Maybe he had some ..err.. magic müsli".
