Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
I watched the majority of CONMEBOL qualifying and I literally have no idea outside of Cavani and Suarez why Uruguay are so well thought of as a team.
I have England winning the group only because Italy doesn't always storm out of the gates in tournaments.

because nobody watched there qualifying campaign and just assume they are a good team because of 2 players
they literally have no midfield ffs

anyway I agree about Uruguay . Although it is a rough NT for DNA and it can count in these tournaments , NT always very pragmatic and compact, not spectacular but definitely concrete, atypical if compared to other South Americans .. Uruguay was the first NT in history football to win with Catenaccio on the other hand . Basically the Italy of South America if we consider also the titles I see the Celeste as 3rd but to fight until the end, anyway

Are people forgetting that Italy were runners up on Euro and comprehensively beat Germany on the semis Why are people acting like it's 2011?

Or 2010 for that matter. It's Italy, pretty sure they'll top the group. Not that England isn't good enough. They are most certainly. I actually like the squad Woy picked. But, you know, it's England NT. Not exactly sure what to expect really.

I for one, am not so confident of Italy topping the group. Italy usually has a rocky start, until it finally gets its head in the tourney.

Agree with this. I would not be surprised if they draw with Costa Rica.

Qualifiers
Uruguay had a worse record in 2010 world cup qualifiers and had to get through with the playoff section against Costa Rica. And they reached the semis of that World Cup.
Qualifiers mean absolutely zilch.

In terms of my own personal thoughts, I don't underestimate this Italian squad, I just think they will start slow. In spite of that, I still have Italy in the final against Brazil.

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
I want England to progress I have seen how they move at the Premier League at the same time the Uruguay they are one of the teams that I look forward last 2010 they sit on the 4th place for sure they could showcase again their edge. And lastly the Italy squad, I could see a lot of potential with this one. I just hope that these three could qualify however just only two of them can.

Well, I would be all for Italy getting eliminated in the groups. Italy would be the team that worries me most if we run into them somehow. ^^

No way in hell Uruguay is finishing 1st. We can settle this on the betting thread if you want.

“I don’t look at England as a team that can win the World Cup.''
“They have some good players, but they are no real rivals for Italy.
“I am not saying that Italy are favourites, but we have the mentality and experienced players to surprise people — I don’t think England have that.
“We have players who have won the World Cup, I don’t think England have a player who knows what it is like to play past the quarter-final.”

Balo less words more facts pls
Look to Sturridge, another amazing goal today.
it was the usual boring England under Hodgson , but we can't underrate it with some players as him

Then again, Uruguay were 5th last time around in qualifiers and made it to semis (albeit with a favorable draw)

The only team Germany needs to worry about is themselves.

Naw, we have an Italophobia in football. Otherwise Germans love Italy
(Hm... Maybe that's why Dortmund are signing Ciro Immobile - they want to get a psychological advantage over Bayern that way!)

Re: World Cup: Group D discussion
Uruguay are hopeless, Suarez has been carrying them on every single game. Cavani is a scrub.
Lugano actually said that he would his knee if it meant Suarez to play for Uruguay in the WC.
Without Suarez they might end up finishing bottom of the group.

Uruguay are utter hit apart from Cavani, Godin and Suarez but all it takes is a jammy set piece or deflection for them to win games. They'll sit back all game and I doubt we'll be able to break them down.

There are 3 certaines in football : Benfica loses an European final , Tony Pulis doesn't relegate , Germany doesn't win against Italy
