2014 Summer Transfer Rumours Mk. III

Injuries weren't a problem since October.  He's been healthy since.  He started out well and looked decent.  But then clubs saw his flaws (very poor on set pieces and bad decisions with the ball)... and they just went at him.  He got abused even by Ligue 1 teams. I think he was the most nutmegged defender in Ligue 1 last season.

Kids needs to toughen up a lot and clean up his passing.

He'll still fetch 30-35 million for PSG though

Thats 4 options. We dont literally need 4 CB's, but we do need 4 players who legitimately play the position.

what? no, he was fit, and he sucked. whenever he would slot in for thiago or alex, the defense would be in shamble. It can be explained by a great many things, and that might not put his potential in question, but he wasnt very solid.

Those swap things wont happen. PSG cant increase they wage bill, and we all know Alves makes a lot of money. They will make it happen if they offload players like Pastore and Lavezzi who earn a lot, and make moves to replace them. So there are many things to take under consideration.

I would say that if they sell Marquinhos and Lavezzi to hire Griezmann and Alves, it's a damn successful transfer window for them.

BTW, when you compared him to Mascherano...was it because of his height?

yes, his main weakness is at set pieces.Barcelona need to inject at least another tall defender in their backline.or at least someone with good aerial ability

Not sure who would even touch Pastore, out of clubs who have a decent budget of course.

Well he is 6 feet tall.

2 inches taller than Puyol
Same height as Gallas, Toure, Verm, Carvalho
1 inch smaller than Koscienly, Vidic, Carragher

How big a problem can it be?

We no question need another and one who I would say is dominate in the air.

I don't know what happened to Marquinhos at PSG but at Roma he was fantastic and he's only 20 ffs. Pique aside better than anything Barca has.

Also yes he's short but Barca have Pique for that, aerial stuff is only an issue when Pique's not there. Of course they would need another CB on top of it though as Bartra and Mascherano are not starting material.

He didn't "suck". The last 7 times he started as a CB PSG conceded a grand total of 0 goals, so much for "shambles". He also scored 3 goals in the CL, so he's a threat offensively. You also need to keep in mind he's 20, he obviously makes mistakes. And PSG isn't exactly the place to develop youngstars at this very moment.

I wouldn't want him as the only signing, no way. But I'd gladly take him to replace Fartra as "player for the future" while also buying the experienced Benatia. My ideal idea at least.

Dani... he's horrible on FKs.  His other issues are getting nutmegged and bad decisions with the ball.  But his FK defense is really shambolic.  His positioning is poor and he gets pushed around too easily...  loses his man.

Still, has a lot of talent obviously.  I personally feel he makes a better RB tbh.  He has good technique, good speed and can score.  CB doesn't seem a good fit.

Well he is 20, being pushed around physically doesnt exactly surprise me.

As for the other stuff, I dont know, my post was more in question form.

As futbol said, if its just him, obviously that wont get it done. But him plus another, that makes alot of sense to me if for a reasonable price.

i dont believe that the numbers of goals conceded by the team represent the quality of a centerback, how silly. So if he makes a blunders and Sirigu wins all his 1v1, he is still a quality centerback? what? it's good to quickly go on to whoscored to check statistics but please, dont use them so poorly mate.

In my opinion, that search for two centerbacks is an extremely delicate situation. Stacking players in your team wont make your centerback pairings more effective.

First of all, continuity matters, so finding a guy that natural fits with Pique is the most important thing. Someone who should be playing 40 games per year with Pique. And then if you need a back up, go and address that. not sure why u would need both Benatia and Marquinhos for example.

Based on how it has been going with Barca, their defenders often get injured.So let's say Pique gets injured, do you think Bartra-Marquinhos is good enough?I think Barca need both Benatia and Marquinhos because they need at least one guaranteed solid CB in their backline.I think Maruinhos-Bartra would get demolished in a classico, for example.

So if they need a solid CB, why sign marquinhos on top of it then? Not arguing that they might be short in personnel, still, they need one strong CB that will put Mascherano in a 3rd CB role.

that's probably what will happen. If you sign benatia and try to install Pique and benatia partnership, Marquinhos becomes completely useless imo. Not enough game time to improve and to be relevant, and no realistic hope to take over Pique and benatia both in their late 20s and their primes.

I'm not convinced Marquinhos is going to be sold btw...  i still feel he gets moved to RB UNLESS someone offers 35 mil for him.  He looked really, really good at RB imo.

As far as Zouma, he's been benched most of the season at St Etienne.  Perrin and Sarr are the starting CBs.  Has massive physical talent... but he's extremely aggressive.  Almost killed a guy early in the season with a tackle that got him suspended for a long, long time.

His potential is pretty huge. If he doesn't reach it, meh 12m isn't so bad. I'm not sold on the guy but someone in our committee seems to like him.

Could mean the end of Lucas which is what most of us want.
