Yeah, you're on the right track but I personally wouldn't say you guys baited them.Mr Nick09 wrote:El Gunner wrote:Thought you didn't watch the gameMr Nick09 wrote:Last year Bayern raped barca both games on counter by finishing their chances and without holding much possession. No one cried, hail bayern.
People have somehow become convinced that this possession trend means that one team is better than the others because they hold more possession. frak that shit.
footy is like a game of chess, we baited them, and they fall into our trap. boohoo be mad
i havent yet, but it's easy to understand what happened.
Madrid played a very well organised game, and Bayern who weren't at their best were made to look very pointless with their possession football by Madrid's game plan. Madrid, as the ever beasting counter attacking team that they are, scored on a fabulous one and could've done so on 2 more other occasions.
In a nutshell, I would say Madrid played a wise game and they got the reward.

Another win for efficacy over idealism.

Sound.
Underrated type of football, never gets credited enough because neutrals doesn't find it entertaining.

Lets see what was the perfect scenario for Bayern, they kept the ball at mid encouraging Madrid players to attack and use space behind them, something that did not happen. That made pep to switch the formation. The bottem line is a team wants to create space and time for attackers to hit the target, isnt that the case ?
From what I saw, most of the time the ball was just outside Real Madrid's penalty area. They were trying to create by either crossing the ball or dribbling mixed with some shots. What else can you do? If you saw last night game, then you would have seen that it does not matter what style you use against a 10 man wall. They are all as ineffective as each other. All you can do is hope that you get lucky..
its been done numerous time by many teams by playing direct football instead of what Bayern did, take a look at Spain vs Italy in euro games for example or At Madrid when they draw 2-2 and many other examples without playing to have possession. The nature of football is designed in the way that goals wins you game not possession.

Re: Real Madrid 1-0 Bayern München - First Leg
Classic Carlo specialisation.
Carlo's plan reminiscent of Max Allegri's 4-5-1 that shackled Barça last year for the 2-0. Cristiano playing that sacrificial Pazzini role to press the opposition, Xabi Alonso playing the crux of the 4-5-1 in the Ambrosini role and typifying how keeping organised and disciplined while anticipating can be better than pressing and a high line. This squad are not known for their understand of the game and discipline and as I thought they would crack under the sheer tactical intensity of the set-up (and the cracks were displayed near the end) yet they kept up to pace.
Bayern were predictable and arrogant. Ribéry, Schweinsteiger (surprise), Boateng and Lahm having poor games while Robben in all his initiative was predictable as Tom's choice of roadkill. Mandzukic was a poor decision given vs this set-up you need a Forward who can draw out the disciplined backline rather then remain stationary. Götze and Müller would have been superior choices.
Peep who looked centimetres away from being a clown was immense to cover Ramos' lapses and shackle Mandzukic while Modric though not influential in attack, was spot on perfect in defence, turning a brilliant sacrificial performance. Iker was Iker in a CL night. Xabi Alonso MOTM by far. Passing perfectly into intelligent areas while under pressure and defensively PERFECT.
10/10 marks for tonight's performance as missed finished by CR and Dí Maria could have made it more. Carlo is a fantastic manager. Believe it or not a 1-0 is better for Madrid than a 2-3--0 given Carlo's indolent 2nd leg attitude.

Meh. It's not that simple and I disagree with you. Bayern REFUSED to take risks for fear of getting caught out and then it happened. They kept passing around the middle and whenever Robben or Ribey were 1 on 1 they just stopped and passed back allowing Madrid to reorganise themselves. There were moments were Bayern were capable of breaking but they always played cautiously. No risk, no reward. Barcelona at least had runners in behind. Bayern preferred taking ti to feet and driving forward when Madrid had reorganised. Simple football would have sufficed.
Great plan by Carlo and it wasn't as simple as putting 11 men in the box, everytime Madrid countered they looked like scoring. This was a tactical win for Carlo. Now imagine if both Ronaldo and Bale are fit for the next game? Bayern will be torn apart.

Juveman101, you do realize that you support Juve don't you. A team that is historically known for defensive football, a team that Copenhagen had more of the ball when they played together.
Seriously, do you understand where you are coming from?
Not only are you criticizing a classic Italian performance from a Madrid, a performance which made Madrid the better team for 70 minutes of the match. But you are also contradicting your loyalties for Juve.

Benzema and Ronaldo stayed up and we played a 442.
. we played without any DMs as well... not to mention we were the one actually tried to attack consistently instead of passing it in between Go and CBS lol
Parked bus some are clueless about the game.

Fantastic Jibs, however regarding the last part. It really isn't the case Madrid tearing Bayern apart next game with Bale and CR being fit. You've got Bayern who need to win. They will attack. If Madrid miss chances as they did today I think Bayern are perfectly capable of scoring even 3 next game. Reason being, Pep will have to go more direct and it will play to the German sides strength. Today, like you mentioned Robben and Ribery had chances to to run at their men but Pep's instructions were clearly noted as they kept holding back and playing the back pass even though a more direct approach was clear to see. And that helped Madrid reorganize every time. Credit to Carlo. He played a blinder with the 4-4-2. But Pep was at fault also with his tactics.

Italy didn't play with a 10 man wall against Spain. And if you are referring to the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid, then that was mostly because of luck. Real Madrid were completely outplayed.
And who has been talking about the nature of the game? You said that it was good that effective football won over possession based football, something I didn't agree because that would make football boring as hell..

Re: Real Madrid 1-0 Bayern München - First Leg
Bayern's football today was like watching a glorified version of Moyes' brand of football.
Pointless passing, aimless crosses, hardly any movement through the middle. Posession without penetration.
They made it too easy for RM to defend.
Pep's Bayern are lacking the cutting edge they had last season.
edit: And I forgot, a serious lack of pace in the side.

Pep overvalued retention of possession in this match way too much.
