Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
I would love United. It would be like beating a dead horse when it's down but it will be payback to scrubpersie and co who blamed their CL exit on the red card.
Next up I want Dortmund time we gave them a manita for humiliating us last season away. Pepe looks like a guy reincarnated and two fit lbs
next I want Chelsea, I don't think they are quite ready this season but it would be so satisfying to beat Mourinhos smug face and let him vent in the media about conspiracy and that bs afterwards
Next I want PSG, think we will dominate them in midfield but Cavani vs Marcelo worries me. Pepe will take care of Ibra and their only proper threat not only on goal but passes will be wiped from the game
Next I want Atleti, their smug tactics won't work in CL, Raul Garcia bumps Xabi off the ball and he gets an automatic red card. Pepe and Ramos can both play calmly without playing in to Atletis hands
Next I want Barca, although their defence is shit, their midfield slow they are still annoying and dangerous. Think CL will motivate them more than the league and if we manage to beat them on Sunday am afraid they will switch the focus fully on CL while we will be playing for both
Last Bayern, just gtfo and let us win the CL darn it

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
no way in the world we would dominate PSG in the midfield... in fact, the exact contrary will happen. They have the second most dominant midfield in Europe behind Bayern. It's better than the current Barca. Not only are the starters great (Motta, Verratti, Matuidi), the backups are great (Cabaye, Rabiot).
They'd eat us alive in the middle. That's the strength of that team... not the forwards interestingly although it's not far behind (lavezzi and lucas are inconsistent). They play a Barca-style system (more direct) and it's midfield centric.
The weakness is at fullback for PSG.

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
hmm, united are having a shitty season, and i believe over 2 legs we can handle them....but i'm not as eager to get utd as many people on here are. the fact they are having a shitty season is why i do not want them, i'd hate for them to all of a sudden grow some balls, play us like their lives depended on it and we from out of the blue lose to moyes. at this stage of the competition i have no preference on who we meet, understandably its crunch time in the season, but hell, its about time....i just hope everyone steps up at this stage, we can't expect the teams remaining at this stage to play like schalke, so we must raise our game to another level. and i hope on defense we can concentrate for 90 plus minutes, that has always been one of our problems in ucl that we hardly talk about, the lack of 100 percent concentration for the full match

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
Of all the teams It is better to face chelsea. Reason being both Man U & BVB pretty much lost out on league. so their saving grace is CL. PSG pretty much won the league so they really want it. Bayern/Barca/AM as usual are tough.
Chelsea , my guess won't risk league for CL as they know this season they are not ready to go all the way. Theoretically Chelsea should be Madrid's best bet. But you never know Mou. They drew against a good Bayern side and took them to penalties.

Don't really care who we get, I would like to avoid Pep and Jose for now though.
Nedved makes a good point about certain teams putting 100% into the CL now that their league campaign is over.
As far as United the only thing I worry about if we get them is that I'm afraid CR will go easy on them like last time.

Chelsea would have been a death sentance. I'm glad we don't meet them in the QF, Mourinho surprisingly always manages to reach semis with his teams in CL.
Dortmund is almost equally as hard. I still fear them for last season but they are not the same team anymore so hopefully we can pay them back for last season

Half of Dortmund's team is injured. That mercenary Lewandowski is suspended for the first leg.
If we don't beat BVB after what happened last year heads will have to roll. I said this in the gen section, if the players that played last year have any shred of dignity, pride, manhood and professionalism they will do everything to end this tie and kill it off at the Bernabeu.
No excuses.

Yeh part of their team is injured and they're probably the 2nd weakest side out of all the teams left. That's not to say it'll be an easy game, however overall we're the better team currently and I'm confident we'll get the job done.

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
Emilio Butragueno has warned Real Madrid that although Borussia Dortmund are weaker this year than last, they are still dangerous.
The sides have been drawn against each other in the Champions League quarter finals and met four times in last season’s competition - twice in the group stage and then twice again in the semi-final.
Dortmund won 4-3 on aggregate to reach the final, where they lost to Bayern Munich, and after the draw Butragueno told Canal+ that Madrid can’t take the Germans lightly this time.
“Dortmund aren’t the same as last season but they are still competitive and Madrid have to be careful,” the former Madrid forward said.
“But I do think Madrid are well prepared for the tie having played four times last year.

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
As Zealous said, if a slip up happens it'll be pretty hilarious for the neutrals. With that said, I think Real Madrid won't be troubled, compared to Moaninho's team this is a superior Real Madrid team tactically. If you play without fear and attack, you'll win... most Bundesliga teams don't fear this crippled Dortmund team as evidenced by recent results so I don't think you will either. Just an honest opinion from someone who regularly watches Dortmund.

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, gave his first reactions to the Champions League Quarter-Finals draw against Borussia Dortmund, noting that his team must be at their best, to earn their passage to the Semi-Finals of the competition.
Having followed the Champions League Quarter-Finals draw very closely, Carlo Ancelotti gave his immediate thoughts to Real Madrid TV, noting that there are no weak sides and having being paired with German outfit Borussia Dortmund, his team face a very tough challenge.
“At this stage of the competition, all the best teams are there. Borussia have a very good squad, they’re a good team and have plenty of experience in this competition. Last season they reached the final and it will be one of the most open quarter-finals. We’re really enthusiastic and we’ll have to play well against such a competitive team.”
Analysing the German side, Ancelotti pointed out that because they’re so far behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund will likely identify the Champions League as a great opportunity for silverware this season.
“They’re out of the race for the Bundesliga and I think they’ll be really fired up for the Champions League. They’re a quality team, well organised, most of all defensively and they’re great on the counter-attack. To beat them, we’ll need to show courage and personality.”
Looking at the rest of the draw, Ancelotti believes that there are no favourites in any of the ties, as the best eight teams have made the quarter-finals.
“All the ties for the quarter-finals are very interesting. There’s the confrontation between two Spanish sides, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. PSG against Chelsea will be a very open tie and the last one, Bayern Munich will be more the favourites against Manchester United. These are the quarter-finals though and they’ll all be wide open.”

Re: Champions League: Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund discussion
This Real Madrid team is alot better tactically than the team last season. They try and starve Alonso there will still be Modric and DiMaria, if any of them underperforms there are guys on the bench who can come on and do a solid job
Bale on the right although a little more anonymous when the ball doesn't go through him is a better fit there than DiMaria, he shows his unpredictability by cutting in and running at the defenders and crossing with his weaker foot, DiMaria was a little more predictable last season. Not only that be he adds goals as well
Benz has been playing well so we might actually count on a CF this time compared to last season
Carvajal instead of Arbeloa, what can i say, solid defensively and very good attacking supporting Bale up there, could improve his passing and crossing alittle bit but overly satisfied we have him
A fit Marcelo, speaks for itself
Modric instead of Khedira, another comfortable passer who have the advantage of being able to hold on to the ball and get away from tackles, does not add alot offensively in terms of goals though but with bbc are we really going to need it??
DiMaria instead of Ozil, does everything ozil cannot do but is a little inferior in the passing department especially under pressure. benefits outweighs the risks
lastly, Saint Iker Casillas need I say more?
Dortmund on the other hand have nearly their whole team out injured, I mean there are some in there who we would easily handle/murder if they played anyways like Subotic, Schmelzer and Blachykowski, but their target man and their defensive pivot are all out injured so we will likely dominate the midfield. If we don't go through Perez might as well stand down there and then

I don't think it matters anyway if Bale doesn't offer anything apart from goals, at least in a 4-3-3. It would be more of a problem in a 4-2-3-1, where the wide players are expected to offer more.
