From 2007/08 till about to 2011, he was the best defender in the world.

Agreed. He was a beast. Prime Vidic would start in every single team in the world today.

I wonder whom they will replace him with and is Jones finally going to be made a first-choice CB.

I would like to see new signings of 'world-class' defenders , Chielline or Thiago Silva partnering Evans at the heart of our defence , although Evans still has to work out a few issues . It would definitely improve us overnight in my opinion.

Silva is superb Hans .. If United are smart they will already have this deal in place and done.
Moyes and (i think) Woodward said a couple of times through the winter that a lot of work being done now is for the Summer. Hopefully it's just a case of the season ending and announcing him , subject to medical etc.
If we could do that after the season ends it will send out a huge statement of intent for next season.

I hope so.Art Morte wrote:I wonder whom they will replace him with and is Jones finally going to be made a first-choice CB.
There's no such thing as 'first-choice CB' in our team. This season we have had a total of seven different central partnerships. Imo it's time to give him games, in his preferred position, to see if he's good enough. A game here and there is not sufficient. He's still only 21, so it's too early to write him off. Since, he's been for awhile, people tend to do that like they do/did Wilshere.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6
Jones does deserve the opportunity to play centre back .. the problem seems to be that Moyes considers him more effective in a central midfield berth , and appears reluctant to play him as a centre half .. untill Moyes is replaced , this may well continue .This is the problem , United must consider upgrading the manager/coaching staff . Bayern Munich have had 4 managers in 6 years, and they pretty much upgraded each time. Van Gaal was someone with a CV infinitely better than Moyes, Its possible someone with his ability to spot a players potential/ best position could do some important ground work with Uniteds current young players .

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6
Yeah, I think Van Gaal is someone who can build a good squad for us. His man-management is not the best though, but I think it would be worth it. It was actually between him and Eriksson after Fergie's first retirement announcement, before the U-turn.
Also, Spurs want him too, it will be fun to steal him away from them

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14 V6
Van Persie would be surely glad about this choice, also because the rumours say he hasn't good feeling with Moyes
about Van Gaal he has problems to work with South american players and he prefers an European squad , there is this common opinon supported by the words of a former player who called him "The Hitler Of Brazilian Players" (and in his career he got rid of South American players as Lucio,Riquelme and others) but anyway you haven't these problems except for a few . We Inter fans wanted him too but we were resigned to the impossibilty because of too many Argentines

Van Gal would kick Roonay out of the club at his first sight.

You are aware that Thiago Silva doesn't play in Italy any more, but at PSG? You can't buy players from that club if they're not looking to sell.

not necessarily, if Rooney calls him 'Sir' and sits upright at breakfast, they might get along.

Yeah Mate , I know his current status , PSG dont need to sell either so it would have to be a pretty good offer .. or they buy more players for his position , whatever happens I dont think a trio of Evans/Jones/Smalling will be enough next season .. TBH , I am waiting for the Jagielka jokes to start !!
