Alaba vs Alba
Close call, Alaba slightly better in defense, while Alba is better in offensive. Who is the better LB?

Remove Alaba with Rafinha and we might have something to think about.

It's not like Alaba is the second coming of Maldini.
Still, both of them have nothing on Marcelo

Alaba is better overall. Alaba's good attacking wise, Alba's just quicker.

Re: Alaba vs Alba
Marcelo? That fat boy who played liked 3 games of football the last couple years and is worse defender than even Alba?

Idk guys, Alba is pretty good at overlapping, probably the most important skill for an outside back/defender. I'm going to have to go with him.

Re: Alaba vs Alba
I dont think its more important than actual defending.
But anyway compare their respective performances when Bayern and Barca played last season. That was really indicative of the difference.
Alaba was calm and assured in defence, gave nothing away cheap, almost couldnt be dribbled, played 1-2 touch football, dribbled when he was supposed to, passed when he supposed to, cleared it when he supposed to and provided an attacking option with crossing when it was called on. Throw in his size which means physically he is imposing and wins aerial balls.
Alba was a jittery mess who was beaten at at seemingly every turn both in the air and on the ground. He took an age on the ball, his passing game was hit and miss, he cleared it in a panic when calmness was required and obviously in that game in particular (not his fault) was a non impact on the overlap. He ended up resorting to his repertoire of diving and begging for foul calls because he was overwhelmed.
Of course, not all games will be like this, of course Alba isnt as bad as he was that day...but still.

Re: Alaba vs Alba
I'm going to start having to include spoiler tags in my blatant sarcasm posts.
Overlapping will never be more important than actual defending. Exhibit A: Alba, Exhibit B: Montoya
Though Dani you've done a good job illustrating the difference between the two. I rate Alaba really highly actually.

Although I rate Alaba highly, I don't think he is that great at defending.

Re: Alaba vs Alba
You don't need to be great at defending to be better than Alba
