You are wrong. Some very key players of this United team are in their early 30s (Vidic, Carrick, Evra, RVP) and need to be replaced in a couple of years. It's totally acceptanble and good plan for Everton, but not for a title aspiring team. David Moyes has been a coward and cautious manager for decades...you can't change your mentality over night. Fingers crossed, very very happy he's won the last 2 games. We need him to be there for 2 full seasons (or 1.5 at least...to really Evertonise them).

And I think that's what Owen is analysing. I think he (and the rest of the English pundits) were expecting more. Hell, I think Arsene himself would want Ozil to have more impact on games because he does go missing for quite a bit, again it's happened at Madrid and Wolfsburg too so it's not a dig at Arsenal that Lex keeps going on about. Because you do expect more consistency of a player that is "world class". That's not to say Mesut isn't world class, because he definitely is, talent wise anyway, but you want just that little bit extra. I'm sure that's why many people are agreeing with Owen here.

And you've obviously seen more of Arsenal than I have, but from what I've seen of Cazorla he's done okay so I can't really comment. But to be fair to him being less co, Ozil has stole his position.

I think the view that Ozil should suddenly go on God mode every second of the game or be inconsistent is bull. Simply put, not a single AM in history constantly produces for the entire 90 minutes. Or else we will be seeing 10 goal thrillers more often.

The AM player, which the EPL is not familiar with, strives in creating the killer chance when it presents itself. Unless you are playing against bloody San Marion, that chance won't present itself every five minutes.

I think the people complaining about Ozil's inconsistency have highlight memories of past players playing in his positions. Here is a reality check:

-Zidane
-Baggio
-Totti
-Nedvad
-Rui Costa
-Figo
-Zico
-Socrates

None of those guys produced all through the 90 minutes, hell, some of them would go in extended spells without doing anything of worth. Does this mean that Ozil is better than them for actually having better statistics. No, but he is in their path.

What marks the truly legendary AM is that he performs when it counts, like all those players did through their careers. Ozil's only true weakness would be that he does not yet perform consistently in those big games. But saying that he performs well in one game than being shit in half a dozen is the mark of an imbecile.

tbf, Ozil also started on the left for Werder before moving to the middle when Diego went to flop elsewhere.

I don't think inconsistent is the right term for Ozil.

His play is actually pretty consistent IMO. The term I think better fits his problem is 'uninvolved' which can be equally as bad tbh. How I see it is his level of play is pretty consistently a high level, but there are games where he is just not as involved so the blame shouldn't completely be shoveled his way. But there are times where he can definitely do better to be move involved in the build up play or actively seeking the pass, other times he could use better service.

He is on some good shit!
