Erick Thohir Empty Re: Erick Thohir

New Inter owner Erick Thohir expects the Italian club to make use of the January transfer session.

It won’t just be up to me who Inter sign,” the Indonesian businessman told Liputan 6 in an interview. “Every decision will be discussed with all of the staff at Inter.

“It’s very likely that we will make some new signings next month and that a few players in the current squad will be sent out on loan.

“But these are things that we will evaluate with the Coach closer to the time.”

Thohir bought 70 per cent of the Beneamata from Massimo Moratti recently and he has clear ideas about his primary objective.

I want Inter to return to being a healthy club in financial senses,” he added. “When that is done then we will return to being a strong club, get back to thinking about winning titles.”

Inter, now bossed by Walter Mazzarri, are currently fourth in the standings – four points behind third-placed Napoli and one clear of Fiorentina.

Big changes coming our way

This mornings edition of Turin based newspaper Tuttosport delivers some alarming news for the leadership of Inter, in particular the technical department. Dave Kasper general manager of DC United , handed over to Erick Thohir a report he has compiled. The result is a rejection across the board, particularly for the sports department.

Kasper, similar to Thohir, has constantly been visiting Milan and northern Italy to learn the secrets of our football, getting many details, assessing and comparing with those of the Inter planet. Last week, for example, Kasper has attended four games (Parma -Varese , Inter – Trapani , Bologna – Juventus and Inter – Parma) while thoroughly analysing the youth sector and the structure of the scouts , but also the entire area sports club, splitting between the office and Pinetina. His response was negative, especially with regard to the organization of the sporting sector. One area has impressed the most however, the Youth sector passed with flying colors, although speaking with observers he gave indications on the work of scouts which will still have to be changed.

It goes without saying, however, that the failure of the technical department, brings into question the figure of Marco Branca: “The rejection of the sporting department – it says – will lead to major changes in the structure of the club, the revolution that was supposed to be bland and at the end of season ,may already take place in early February, after the market has been completed in January, it’s considered the last urgent deadline before a period of relative stalemate, especially at managerial level . Given the criticism from Kasper, it’s evident there is always the risk to Marco Branca and the Sporting Director (Piero Ausilio)”

There are reports tension is growing between new Inter President Erick Thohir and Massimo Moratti.

Both the Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport have the story on their front pages this morning, claiming there is a sudden ‘deep freeze’ in their rapport.

Indonesian investor Thohir bought out 70 per cent of the club from Moratti in November, though the original patron still has a seat on the Board of Directors.

According to today’s newspapers, there is a split emerging within the club between those who wanted Moratti to have more of a say in the running of Inter and those who expect Thohir to bankroll an impressive transfer campaign.

Instead, Thohir seems set to sell one of the Nerazzurri’s big names to fund the January transfer strategy.

Andrea Ranocchia, Fredy Guarin and to a lesser extent Samir Handanovic are all on the market for the right price.

It would frustrate fans who expected the Indonesian magnate to flood the club coffers with his own cash rather than sell stars to bring in others

Personally i support whatever Thohir is doing only because we saw what the old ways could lead to. Plus Guarin and especially Ranocchia are not our best performers so cashing out on them is not a problem to me. Handanovic might be a different story but the fact that he will be replaced by Bardi softens the blow

Thohir: "Inter need to follow the American business model"

Inter president Erick Thohir has spoken of the need for his club to change its business model and emulate American sports teams by expanding its brand globally.

Since taking over from Massimo Moratti in November, Thohir has generated curiosity among fans, especially in view of the approaching transfer window. Inter are currently fourth in Serie A.

I’m certain that Inter’s brand and history can make a lot of money,” the Indonesian told GQ Italia.

“We need to change our business model; we should take inspiration from that of America, where sport is marketed globally.

We must focus on an innovative business. When I went into Indonesian TV there were stronger competitors, but we found new ways of doing things and today we are the best.

Thohir also explained how he was first given the idea of investing in Inter – by the club’s sponsors, tyre manufacturers Pirelli.

They convinced me – they were building a factory in Jakarta and they told me about this opportunity.“

Thohir: "I trust Mazzari"

Inter President Erick Thohir slammed reports he is looking for another Coach. “I trust Walter Mazzarri.

There were several media sources claiming on Saturday that Thohir had contacted Ajax tactician Frank De Boer either for next season or even to take over in January.

Mazzarri is a great professional and an excellent Coach. I trust Mazzarri and so does the whole management,” Thohir told Adn-Kronos news agency.

He has the utmost respect of the club and players. This, along with his competence, makes him the right man in the right place.

“His project at Inter has just begun and together we will define the next steps to bring this team towards important objectives.

“I have not, and neither have any of my staff, contacted any other Coaches. We don’t see the need.”

Tonight Inter will play Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo in a head-to-head for European places or even the Scudetto race.

It is an important match, but not a decisive one,” added Thohir.

Thohir:"A magnificent night"

Erick Thohir was interviewed by Sky Sport Italia after enjoying his first taste of derby success.

The president said: “I want to thank all the players for this wonderful game, and I want to thank all the fans. The 80,000 were incredible, amazing. I’m sure we’ll all have a happy Christmas now. It was magnificent night tonight. AC Milan played well, we respect them but it was a great win.

“I met Barbara Berlusconi before the game and we had a very nice chat. Italian football needs to grow and develop and we share the same ideas in that respect.

“I think Palacio scored one of the best goals of the season, it was a fantastic backheel.

“Zanetti, Cambiasso and Nagatomo are all leaders.

“I would never have dreamed of winning two derbies back to back. It’s always nice to win but of course the real heroes are the coach, the players and the supporters.

“What does the team need to become stronger? I’ve spoken to coach Mazzarri and I trust the players we have but of course there are a few positions we need to upgrade. We won’t upgrade just for the sake of it though: 60% of January transfers fail so we need to be careful.

“When will I be back in Milan? In January.”

Erick Thohir assured “Walter Mazzarri will be the Inter Coach next season too” after this morning’s meeting.

The President met with Mazzarri, directors Piero Ausilio and Marco Fassone at the club HQ this morning and spoke to journalists as he left.

“Walter Mazzarri will be the Inter Coach next season too,” he assured the media.

“We must react together and face the last six games in the best way, then we’ll see what the market offers.”
