Iran National Team Thread
A group for me, Pedram, and Mamad.
So Let's analyze the performances of our players here, and think of tactics and formations for the WC.
I think our first XI is pretty much obvious except 2 spots.
Davari, Dejagah, RGN, Nekounam, Teymouryan, Hosseini are certain to start every single game, no question.
that leaves RB, CB, LB, AM, and LW to be filled.
Jahanbakhsh is doing well at NEC Nimegen, and Azmoun is starting games at Rubin Kazan. Could be good options off the bench.
I heard the Iranian league will be over by beginning of April !!! which means Queiroz gets to get the team in the camp a month in advance of other teams !!! guaranteed it'll be only domestic players, but that's basically all the defense and midfield except Davari.
if he can prepare the physically like Ivic (may he rest in peace) did for 1998 WC, I seriously fancy the chances to progress from the group. Here is hopingg RGN leaves Standard Liege in January for more playing time and Dejagah remains a starter under Rene.

Re: Iran National Team Thread
This is a really good group. Argentina aside we can beat the other two if we play our best football.
Our weakest links are LB, CB and AM. for CB Sadeghi has a good chance to start. for LB i don't know really. anyone but Beikzadeh. he is as headless as you can get. AM is complicated too. there are players like Jabbari and Noori but they are at their worst form atm. of course there is Ali Karime but he is too old and out of shape.
For RB we have Heidari and Montazeri. first one is great going forward and second one is not that good offensively but he can defend. for LW we have Khalatbari and Haj Safi.
The most important issue is our physical condition. Coaches must work on it. secondly, we need some good friendlies.
On a side note, Messi hasn't scored a single goal in WC yet and i will be mad if he scores his first against us .

Re: Iran National Team Thread
atm everyone is writing us off which is good imo, less pressure and we have some points to prove when the time comes. i think both Bosnia and Nigeria are beatable but without good friendlies even Bosnia will have a easy job beating us.

how dare you forget meNatalie Portman wrote:A group for me, Pedram, and Mamad.
think Montazri will pair seid Jalal at CB
Dreadful to think about nonexistent! full back options
dont want the likes of Jabari,Sadeghi and Beikzadeh near line up
still hope Karimi<3 regains some sharpness miraculously and get included
and baffles me how trash Masoud can be and still start meh CQ pls go
Shame we dont have any specialists like Mahdavikia this time
wish we could play some friendlies against the likes of Chile and Ghana etc

I'm half Iranian never really followed the team due to limited tv stations sending the games, but will be cheering with my family for sure when the time comes.

Ashkan with an assist
couple of over hit crosses, one good chance that he hesitated but has done his defensive job well

Re: Iran National Team Thread
Just had a look at friendoffulham forum and their fans seem to love Ashkan and he is a favourite there.
Braunschweig lost again...but at least Davari gets a lot of practice ahead of WC, considering how awful their defense is .
Gucci didn't make the squad for Liege (really HAS to leave)
Azmoun started up front for Rubin away against league leaders today ahead of Rondon and played 70 minutes. I think he'll play in EL again this week

Re: Iran National Team Thread
That's Ali Karimi. He used to play for Bayern Munich as well.Lupi wrote: there was a player that used to play for schalke 04 , is he playing for NT? who else is there? and do they play 4-2-3-1 right?
He is 34 now and hasn't been called up lately, but I wouldn't rule out if he is part of the roster for Brazil as he could potentially be handy off the bench in last 20 minutes of game, with his valuable experience.
And yea, the team plays predominant 4-2-3-1 almost all the time. It's been Iran's formation since 2004 under 4 different managers (only one in 2007 changed it, but he only lasted a year). so the players know the system very well.

These idiots at FFIRI can't renew Queiroz's contract, he'll definitely leave the TM after the World Cup.
