That was a freak goal. Wasn't a defensive error.
That was a big mistake from Gibbs..he couldnt even cover the second post. Terrible positioning. Koscienly screamed at him for a reason.

Pogba was supposed to do the pirlo role today and really disappointed. lost many balls and tried to be too smart

Re: Champions League: Match-day 6
Buffon had to pull of a great save after Pogba stupidly lost the ball. This was not a good showing at all but he still is a fantastic player who was given the wrong role today. Juve really needed a vice Pirlo. They are buying Naingollan six months late.

Not surprising since Pogba isn't a Pirlo.
If anything, Vidal probably would've been a better fit.

In all seriousness though, I don't think the Gala - Juve game should've ever gone ahead on that pitch. UEFA will surely look into that.

46 seconds = destroying?
Arsenal have ruined Bale's CL dreams for years. Had to run off to a team already in the comp

Probably, but that's part of his charm as a complete midfielder though. His versatility was needed today I feel and Conte completely ignored it. Marchisio and Pogba have shown themselves to be capable threatening the goal as well, though admittedly not with Vidal's regularity.
I just think Vidal in the Pirlo role would've provided a more stable base for Juve to break up the play by Sneijder and then start new attacks.

They should've eliminated midfield altogether. 5-0-5. Long ball to the box every time.McLewis wrote:halamadrid2 wrote:McLewis wrote:Not surprising since Pogba isn't a Pirlo.

Gibbs was afraid Delolfu would pass to Coleman who was overlapping.
Szczczc is one at fault imo, at least more than Gibbs.

if cole man was overlapping then shouldnt Gibbs position even more towards the wings???
There was enough players (like 5 or 6 players) in the center... He couldnt even cover the second post, top players wouldve covered the entire post.
No way that was szesznys fault. I play GK, i can confirm.

Heh, given Gala's lack of shape in defense and midfield, that may have worked.
You know Conte though....

Drogba just owned the Juve CBs on the hoofs. That decided the game and a lot of luck.
Exactly, 100% right.
It almost hurts me head that some people think the pitch made no difference because its the same for both teams. It significantly increased galas chances FFS

so what you're saying is, if the pitch were better, Gala wouldn't have been able to hoof the ball to Drogba?

Re: Champions League: Match-day 6
Without going into a full on rant, tactics, formations, rolls etc etc meant f*ck all on that pitch. The game should never have been played.
As for the previous games which could have turned out better, that's our fault. 3-5-2 with no attacking midfielder and wing-backs who can't attack is just a nightmare. We have truely fantastic players in the spine of our team, players who are just about all defensive minded.
We need to change our system next Summer, 3-5-2 has taken us as far as it can. Our build-up play is just so 1 dimensional at times that teams 1/10th our quality can neutralise it.

No, it was a 2v1 in it's purest form. Koscielny and Mertesacker had to stick to Lukaku, leaving only one defender on him in the last minutes was out of the question.
The ball then fell to Delolfu who had Coleman in support, if Gibbs pushes towards Coleman he gives Delolfu a much better angle to shoot. If he sticks to Delolfu too tightly Coleman will be free to cross the ball in front of the face of the goal.
Everton's fullbacks were giving Arsenal a difficult time the entire game, at that time Gibbs absolutely had to be aware of Coleman. I play fullback, i can conform the fullbacks overlap so defenders have to divide their attention between the winger and the fullback.
Delolfu shoots with barely any angle, Szczcz even touches the ball, he has to do better there. Also I believe Rosicky should have been covering Coleman but he was off in the centre somewhere.

Re: Champions League: Match-day 6
The pitch factor could've gone either way, if Juve had not approached the game the way they did, they could've scored one earlier and then start defending.

Juventus didn't have to win, all they had to do was not lose. Chasing the game on a pitch like that was extremely difficult for Gala, all they could do was hope Drogba could repeat his destruction of Juventus in Italy.
On the flip side almost all the passes Llorente got were to his feet lol, Juventus should have just played long balls towards him but that's not what happened.
Gala adapted better to the conditions imo. Yes they were probably going to hoof it to Drogba anyway, but Juventus could have done the same but they didn't.

Re: Champions League: Match-day 6
The pitch was horrendous. I guess they cared more about keeping up with the schedule then giving the fans something worth watching. With that being said, analyzing the match is kinda pointless when the field is in that condition.
