on the team news...
Hector Bellerin is back and is available for Sunday. Danny Welbeck is making good progress, but is still not available.

on Jack Wilshere...
We said Jack would be out for four weeks, and he’s in the second week now so he’s on schedule.

on Tomas Rosicky...
Tomas has had surgery on his knee. His agent said he will be out for one or two months, but it will be longer. How long exactly, we don’t know yet.

on Alexis...
Alexis Sanchez is fit, he’s been working hard and is ready for the weekend.

He's referring to the 3 months he'll spend on the bench once he's fit.

Welbeck not available for at least another three weeks as he's yet to start full training, according to Wenger.

Bellerin is back, though.

Alexis is also fit and available for selection.

Welbeck is basically having his pre-season now, and has been out since April. Frustrating as it is, we don't want to rush him back.

As long as it's Mertesacker next to Gabriel and not Chambers.

As expected, Koscielny didn't train today. Neither did Mertesacker, worryingly enough, though he still has a day or so to recover from whatever illness he has.

Chambers' second half performance against 'Pool wasn't that bad though. I think a Gabriel-Chambers centerback pairing should suffice against Newcastle.

From Wenger's press conference:

Mertesacker still ill and will likely miss Newcastle game.

Koscielny will have a fitness test.

Welbeck still out but likely to be back after the international break.

No update on Wilshere.

Mind blowing. The dot com only said "a period of months" so I'm worried he's right.

Ornstein said 2-3 months when the news was announced so there's still hope that whatever Hodgson heard was wrong.

I guess we'll find out when Wenger is asked about it this week.

Ornstein tells us the news the club wants us the fans to know, they wanted to play the "oh he was 3 months away but suffered a setback" as they've done several times before but Hodgson probably unknowingly told us what they told him.

This whole situation has been a big fat farce.

Just more positive PR spin Rolling Eyes

Think we should rest Koscielny for the Zagreb game so he's 100% ready for the Chelsea game.

08/09/2015: Welbeck expected return in Xmas

30/12/2015: Recovery has not turned out to be as succesful as expected but he is close to coming back

15/01/2016: No striker expected in the transfer window as Welbeck is one week away.

02/02/2016: Welbeck suffered a setback, will miss the Euros.

You can count on this happening.

First I laughed.

Then I read it once more. I became sad.

After reading it the third time, my tears started dripping of my face. I started crying. I realised this is the most probable scenario.

Things got worse.

Raptor-kind of pessimism took over me.

Is this the end?

Wenger says he did not "lie" over Welbeck injury. Only found out about the need for surgery on Friday 29th night, after the press conference

Wenger says Wilshere has suffered "a little setback" in his recovery. Won't be available for Stoke. No return date.

Wenger: "Nobody has come back injured from international duty. Koscielny is OK, Mertesacker is back in full training."

Mertesacker back in full training & available but short of match fitness.

Comfortable with Gabriel standing in for Mertesacker. He's done really well and more game time will only push him and Per to play better.

Would like to see Wele play before the FA Cup final, so he can collect his medal.
