I'm under the impression that GTA won based on hype and popularity, more than anything else. The Last of Us should have won it, in my opinion.. but despite how good and relatively popular a game it is, it isn't quite mainstream enough to compete against GTA's user friendliness, open-world, ridiculous fan base and last but not least, the hype of being the most expensive video game that has ever been created for a mainstream audience.

Yeah here we go. GTA won for being a better game. Being the better overall experience. The hundreds of hours of ridiculous fun one had. Why do people play games? The Last Of Us had an amazing story and GTA just edged it out, no shame in it. No robbery or bullshit. Both BioShock Infinite and The Last Of Us were unlucky.

I've played both. If GTA truly is the better game, then game companies should just stop focusing on being creative, and start focusing on expanding what they already have. Hmm.. I suddenly feel like playing Call of Duty Ghosts... no, I don't.

Don't agree? Why do the makers of Call of Duty keep expanding on their "safe" recipe for a best-selling game, instead of making an effort to re-invent the FPS genre, like they used to do? Because people keep buying them, and the Call of Duty games have high replay value for the majority of their consumers.

Comparing GTA and Call Of Duty, haha seriously? Dan Houser was asked about why GTA 5 took so long to make and he said they easily could just give a random new city and release a GTA every new year while marketing the shit out of it and make a lot of money. But they do not do that? Why? Quality. GTA 5 was an upgrade over GTA 4 In every single way. They did something they never did before with the three main characters and added a LOT of new stuff. From the start to the end of the story, GTA 5was an amazing ride. A fantastic experience. The Last Of Us had the better story and was very moving. GTA 5 edges it out and deservedly won Game Of The Year.

Yes, 3 playable main characters. Yakuza did that. They should win a reward :)I never said that GTA wasn't quality, it obviously is. I don't believe they did anything amazing beyond expanding the game using an almost limitless amount of cash, and improving/removing a few flaws from previous games in the series. Both great games, one's infinitely larger and more popular, the other's infinitely more unique and creative.

You failed to see my point, regarding the CoD comparison  GTA is nothing like Call of Duty, but they have in common that they're both on-going series of games that have little space to add actual new things to them. They expand what they already have by adding more of the same thing, with a few, minor commercial bonuses/features.. and that's what most people expect them to do. You obviously don't agree with me, but I think that despite the amount of creative minds that work for Rockstar, they seemed to focus more on appealing towards the mainstream audience, than to actually do something new and exciting. And that doesn't really impress me. Of course it's a damn good game, but if there's anything we've learnt from the Call of Duty series, it's that you don't necessarily need to put a lot of effort into something, in order to make it appeal to the mainstream audience. Again, I feel that I need to clarify that Call of Duty is nothing like GTA. Rockstar take their time to develop their games, and there's no doubt that the GTA games are quality, as opposed to the ultra recycled, pop trash that CoD has become. I would've been really excited to see a new Red Dead Redemption game, or an entirely new series by R*, but that's not what GTA5 is.

So, the more unique and creative game should win GOTY? That means Flower should have won in 2009, not Uncharted 2? GTA 5 added a lot of new things which were never in the series before, those elements cannot be ignored. I commend Naughty Dog for making a unique new IP but that does not automatically make the game better than the latest installment of a long running series. Hopefully Rockstar finally releases Agent soon.

Anyways my view of GTA vs TLOU is if you'd rather player 60 hours story that you enjoy 70% or 12 hour story of a 100%. All in all I played both games equally, TLOU multiplayer was great, where GTA multiplayer failed, all because of planning. Which is probably the reason why Naughty Dog won best studio
