Re: Results Comparison
Returning to the purpose of the thread, we're at +16 by my count now. This was just from eyeballing the table, so I may have missed something, but I don't believe I did.

Re: Results Comparison
Yeah, you're correct. +16 difference from last, most improvement from any other team in the league.
Liverpool's season compared to the last 5.

Re: Results Comparison
so can we actually say we are performing better than 08-09 season so far....
win-2 more games
draw-5 less draws
lost-3 more but that's not so bad according to me when we have reduced the number of draws so much and that can be a result of various factors...those 5 less draws have resulted in 2 wins and 3 losses which are 6 points (in13-14 season) compared to 5 points (08-09 season) gained by 5 draws so it is still 1 point better and the GD +1 point
so according to me, we are performing better than that season, at least result wise

Re: Results Comparison
I think this shows the different approach and philosophy of our two great managers. Rafa prioritized solidity while Rodgers prefers spectacle.
It also shows team strength in two different era. Rafa had a prime Carragher, Johnson & Mascherano supplemented by Hyypia, Agger, Skrtel & Lucas. Upfront he had not so prolific Riera, Babel, Kuyt supporting Torres & Gerrard. Rodgers have an inconsistent (both in terms of starters and performance) back-line but perhaps the best attack in a decade.

Re: Results Comparison
@HMR: Performing better in the league (albeit by a point), but we were in a CL run during the 08/09 season. 5 years ago today Yossi Benayoun scored a header for a 1-0 advantage at Madrid's Bernabeu.
@iktikhar: Johnson was signed in 2009/10 season, after Alonso was sold. We had Arbeloa that season at RB. Lucas also wasn't a starter. We had Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard in midfield that season. Imagine that trio behind SASAS right now.

Re: Results Comparison
We play 3 away games on the trot in the league. Big test for the squad, 7 points will mean title contenders, 4 points will keep us in the hunt for top4, 3 or less would be disastrous.

Re: Results Comparison
Every game will have a huge rest in between. Leading to United away we'll have 15 days off. I fully expect to win all 3 games. Think this season lady fortune is favoring us for once in a very very long time.

did we ever win a game after international break, or is it another record to be broken as of Stoke and Spurs away

Re: Results Comparison
Compared to the 12/13 H2H, If we get the same results remaining, Do you think we can win the league?
ie Win every game and drawing with Cfc, mcfc and nufc?

Re: Results Comparison
No I don't. 3 draws would be too many points dropped. That would put us at 83 which I definitely doubt will win the title. I think we can only afford 1 slip up (draw it loss) as long as it's not against Chelsea or City.

Re: Results Comparison
without considering those games city, chelsea and Nufc we will have 80 points...I think 86 is a must and I think even 89 points can be tight because there is a possibility that two/even three teams can finish with the same points so GD will come into the picture, where City are superior to us by 3 as of now

Re: Results Comparison
Chelsea
Home: Arsenal, Stoke, Sunderland and Norwich.
Away: Crystal Palace, Swansea, Liverpool, Cardiff.
If we win every remaining game and Chelsea win every game except against us, we will finish 2 points ahead of them.
Man City
Home: Six mid-table opposition (six wins).
Away: Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Crystal Palace.
If City win all of their games except against us and we win all of our games, City will still finish 1 point above us.
Arsenal
Home: Man City, West Ham, Newcastle, West Brom.
Away: Chelsea, Everton, Hull, Norwich.
I don't think they're going to win the title, although they are level on points with us right now, with the same number of games played. However, if we do some slipping up, it could be a tight battle with Arsenal on who will finish 3rd and 4th.
Personally I don't quite believe we are going to win all of our remaining games.

Re: Results Comparison
An interesting little detail is that out of the nine games both Arsenal and we have got left, five of the oppositions are going to be the same (City, Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle and Norwich). That is going to make for nice little comparison.

We'll lose it by 2 points. WBA game will be the shortcoming and we'll sell Toure.
