Gareth Bale could be heading back to the Premier League within a matter of months after a disastrous start to his career as a Real Madrid player, according to a report.

The Sunday Times claims that Manchester United are hoping to force a move for the Welshman next summer, who moved to Carlo Ancelotti's side for £80 million in the summer after a protracted transfer saga.

It seems incredibly far-fetched that Real would dump a player after so little time to prove himself - particularly given that he has been struggling with injuries that have meant he is yet to play for Real while fully fit.

But the paper claims that Bale's woes - which saw him pulled off after an hour of Saturday night's Clasico against Barcelona - have been so bad that a move could be forced through.

"United’s calculation is that such pressures could play hard enough on Bale and Perez to leave them receptive to a summer transfer," the paper reports.

Ancelotti defended Bale after the 2-1 defeat in the Clasico, saying, "He played well and needs to look for his team-mates' runs. He didn't play badly during that hour…

"I think they are his first matches and he needs to get used to playing with his team-mates, which is normal.
"It doesn't make much difference for him to play on the right or in the middle. We started like that to put more pressure on Sergio Busquets, but after 20 minutes I changed his position to the wing to give him more room."

The Spanish press have been less understanding, however, with a lengthy piece in Marca on Sunday contrasting Bale's fortunes with those of Barcelona's big summer signing, Neymar, who was a key figure in Barca's triumph.

"It was the Brazilian who shined far more," the paper reported. "The Real Madrid player was lost, and almost invisible… The Welshman's Clasico debut left more shadow than light."

Sport took a similar line in a piece under the headline: "Neymar devours Bale in their Barca-Real Madrid debuts", calling the two players' performances "like night and day".

It seems unlikely that such dark days for Bale could convince the Welshman to end his Spanish adventure prematurely, but if things don't improve soon it won't be just United who believe that they have a realistic chance of prising him away from the Bernabeu.

Certainly just paper talk, Perez is an idiot but nobody expected Bale to be tearing it up already, even if it's been far from a dream start.

He's still a great player, I think it will be a Kaka situation though. He will never live up to the hype/heights he reached before moving to Madrid (even if Bale's was pretty short lived) and they will struggle to move him on to another club without heavy losses. Nobody is going to pay even half of what Madrid paid, outside of perhaps a PSG (only club I could see Bale wanting to move to out of those rich foreign clubs) There are too many obstacles at Madrid for Bale to gather the same form he enjoyed in the Premier League IMO, the biggest being Ronaldo.

No way this is happening, but it's true that Bale so far doesn't look like he has any idea what to do in that Madrid team.

Worthless speculation. He hasn't even adapted yet and is working on fitness for a long time. Will be at Madrid for at least 2-3 years.

Can't blame them for creating such articles, though. After all, some people do believe what they read, regardless of how ridiculous it sounds. Especially, the haters who believe such things because they wish for it to be true

Madrid made a massive mistake when they sold Ozil then they made a bigger mistake buying Bale... Now they look like losties who don't even know how to kick a ball and starting criticsing referees when they're against them. What a joke of a club.

the problem is the midfield, only now has Carlo found the best combination. the thing is when he starts the best midfield he crushes all that by playing the wrong defence or attack. The games we have played our best line up we have kept a cleansheet and scored plenty

we have had the best start to the season in ages and have 3 out of 3 in CL. What we need is continuity in the starting line up and play those who deserve to play not those the president wants to see

This is ridiculous. Bale doesn't even have 200 minutes to his name yet and people are already calling for his head. Give him a season at least before you judge him.

Carlo has been a yes man his whole career, get used to seeing Perez staring XI.

I disagree with that assessment to be very honest.

This was Bale's first start of the season after injury. Is he rusty? Very. Do we know what we have? Not at all. It'll take 4-6 weeks for him to get up to speed... like every football player after a long lay off.

As far as how we play: Our issue is the midfield. There is nothing else to look at. They were releasing opposing mids free to attack our defense, they can't build up at all AND they can't score. Not sure what our midfield does well actually. It's gotten a bit better... but only in comparison to its atrocious start. Still very bad.

What has Carlo done to adjust? Last 2 games, we've been most effective when he's played 2 pure CMs (Modric, Illara) and a B2B (Khedira). Because that takes away from the creation on the attack, he's dropped Benz into his natural SS role as opposed to forcing the 9 position. With this setup, you have room for the two wing players to make scoring runs.

That's the direction where we're headed. The only change would be Isco coming in at CM IF he learns the tactical positioning required... i think he will.

Spain is for players who can play in tight spaces. Technique>Physique in la liga. Why Perez never understand this
