Is there a more overrated player than Michael Carrick?

It's disgusting how overrated this guy is. Put pressure on the guy and he always folds, that's why he hardly ever performs in big games.

He's basically an extremely poor mans Xabi Alonso but look on Redcafe or among hipsters and you'd think he was the second coming of Veron or something. Even read an article just now claiming he dominated the game against Poland lol.

Yes, the guy can take intense pressure, but that doesn't mean his passing skills or tactical acumen is somehow reduced.

When United is attacking and has good momentum on their side (almost always in EPL) he's invaluable in that teams midfield.

Carricks good. Not WC or anything but his Passing is invaluable to Man U. Ball winning is decent enough, as well. Can't really say anything negative about him.

He's nothing like Alonso as a player.

A couple of months ago I would of stated he was underrated, but he's not anymore. He's still very very good. I wouldn't say he's overrated, but I don't think his suited to Moyes' system. He was arguably the best midfielder in the league under SAF. Just a poor start to the season.

Ive never been a big fan of Carrick and like its been said here he isnt now and never will be a world class CM despite playing for an elite club, although hes not as bad as you make out Gil, personaly id probably take pre-injury Darren Fletcher over him though.

Also that second coming of Veron comment could be taken in a few ways Laughing

Overrated? no. I'd disagree. View on Carrick has always been a split one. I have had united mates calling him shit for the last 5 years. I know people who rate him among the very best.

He is actually a very good player. But limited. He will never perform against the elite players. He gets found out and that's not his fault. You ask him to do certain things and he is good at that. If you ask him to do more than he will flop.

Red Cafe also saying only if Cleverly was playing next to Carrick and not Gerrard, the entire campaign, England qualifications would have been sealed long ago Laughing

As for the actual point, i'd say he's a little bit overhyped. But a very good player nonetheless.

That's why i despise club orientated forums. Including Arsenal Mania.

Rooney, Townsend and Gerrard were all better than Carrick last night.
