If Bale is going for 100m, surely Messi would bring up to 300m?

A value of a player can't always be determined by looking at other players values.

Carroll wasn't wasn't worth £35m and Bale isn't worth £85m/€100m.

However realistically I'd say Messi is worth around €130m and Bale around €60m. But clubs would have to pay a lot more due to Messi's hype and other factors. So yeh, €300m is a possibility.

Whatever price Barcelona are willing to let him go for and the price a club is willing to pay. It's not science. Couch managers don't decide, market forces do...

If Barca were open to selling it'd end with a bidding war in excess of 120M probably. Depending on how much an oil-wealthy club wanted him.

Fernandinho £30M etc etc then yes, he'd go for the price of a small country.

For a player who wouldn't want the move in the first place it'd take a large amount of money to get Barca to even sell, unlike when Bale or Ronaldo wanted to go to Madrid.

'Value' is a pointless concept here because 'Value' doesn't decide the prices. That's just the way it is.

I think some of you forget it only takes 1 team to offer an insane amount of money.

People saying 120-150 mill are not really in reality. There would be a line of teams ready to backup dump trucks of money if Barcelona let it be known they would sell Messi for 150 mill. That would still be a great deal on whoever buys him as in the long run they would make money off of that deal. I mean he's only 26 years old, a 5 year contract would get pretty much most of his prime.

If you look at it teams spend over 200 million in a couple transfer windows and I guarantee if you asked them weather they would rather have the lot of players Monaco or PSG or Man City bought or Messi they would choose Messi going away.

His value is 500 Mill plus. And that still wouldn't be that bad of a deal with shirt sales and the other amounts of money he brings in. I'm sure Real would tell you Ronaldo was a steal at 100 mill.

Prices are set by the margins. If A bids $4, B bids $5 and C bids $10 for an apple then the apple is worth $10. Is C an idiot for bidding so much higher than B? Perhaps, but he's still setting the price.

I think if Chelsea/PSG/Monaco/City knew for sure that they could get Messi for 200m euros then they would bid it, FFP be damned.

You really are slow, don't be mad because everyone thinks you lost it by claiming he's worth under 150 mill.

Madrid made up Ronaldo's fee in less than a year and a half. The Ronaldo deal was so successful they are willing to do it again on a player that is about half as good as him and worth way way less.

And LOL, you don't buy a player for 500 mill with the expectations to sell him the minute his contract is up. Madrid will make way more than 500 mill off of ronaldo before he leaves the white house.

At 31 Messi will not be close to past it and over the length of 1 or two contracts they will def make money off of the deal. It's not out of the relm of possibility to make back the money in the first 5 years if he were to bring them a couple league titles and 2 Champions Leagues, if he were to win the Wold cup next year then all bets would be off and 500 mill would be a breeze to make back.

You see it's an investment, and you plan on him winning multiple trophies with your club and he has a great shot to win a World Cup in South America as well. You also plan on him being there for the rest of his career plus you buy him for the cache he brings your team he makes any team credible as a contender from day one and that is money you can't measure especially because when you buy him you can attract the best talent in the world.
