Just so we are all 100% clear on this...
Marotta paid $9 million for Tevez and Galliani paid $11 million for Matri, right??
If so...

Maximum to 15m.elmystique wrote:actually Tevez deal may rise to 15m...
1m every year in the 3 years of his duration if we qualify for CL which is certain which makes it 12m.
The other 3m is Scudetto or CL bonus.Which means we pay 1m every year in the duration of his contract which is 3 years if we win Scudetto or CL in each of the next 3 seasons.
When you're winning, these bonuses hardly matters tbh.

I told you that he may be the right choice for us and he is proving that he still is a world class striker. He runs, dribbles, create space for our midfielders, scored an amazing goal and nearly scored a second.Great deal considering his price.

We paid $15.5m for an in form at the time 20 goal scorer who was only 26 at the time and not even in his prime yet.Luca wrote:Juventus paid 15.5M for Matri
Milan just paid $11m for the same player who is now 29 years old and a bench warmer.
Big difference...
Also Tevez looks to be in world class form and will be in our starting lineup indefinitely while Matri looks set to become Balotelli's backup. So Marotta basically traded a backup for a world class player and at the same time saved a couple million. Looks like a genius move to me...

The only problem in our attack was Vucinic,he doesn't link well with Tevez.Even though he scored it was poor performance from Vuci.

Nothing wrong with their linkups.Infact that has been the highlight of their partnership.
Its just that Vucinic tends to give the ball away a bit too much. And makes a lazy pass or two.

Re: Just so we are all 100% clear on this...
No it's selective memory. Juventus overpaid for Matri then, believe he had roughly 11 goals in half a season. Finished the season with 20 and that was his only 20 goal season. Juventus still paid 15.5M for Matri.... can sugarcoat it anyway, but it wasn't a good transfer. Tevez arriving has absolutely nothing to do with Matri leaving so the comparison just looks good on paper but means nothing in reality.juve_gigi wrote:We paid $15.5m for an in form at the time 20 goal scorer who was only 26 at the time and not even in his prime yet.Luca wrote:Juventus paid 15.5M for Matri

Pirlo cost less than Padoin. See how silly it is to point out arbitrary facts?
Or was it a 'Marotta master stroke' to lose money on a striker? Being happy that he got a good return when it's still a loss of several million? Lets not think mediocrely about this. Matri at 15.5 was a reach, didn't exactly work out and the few was nearly recuperated so we can be happy in a sense but lets not make it seem more than it really is. Giaccherini was the last transfer Juventus profited on

Re: Just so we are all 100% clear on this...
I'm sorry but Tevez arriving has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with Matri leaving. We purchased Tevez for the exact specific reason to replace one of Matri or Quags. We sold Matri because we purchased Tevez, that's a pretty simple way to look at it and it is 100% correct. Why else did we sell Matri then? Is there another reason? We sold him because we purchased Tevez, there is no other reason. If Tevez wasn't purchased, then we wouldn't have sold Matri, there would have been no need because we would have had only 5 strikers which Conte wants as the minimum.Luca wrote:No it's selective memory. As for the $15.5m fee 3 years ago, I would agree we did overpay slightly for Matri, but at the time he was an up and coming striker who had just scored 11 goals in half a season and he ended up with 20 that year so $15.5m for a 20 goal scorer is not an unreasonable purchase. Did he do anything after that year? Well when Conte took over he didn't fit the 3-5-2 scheme, Matri is obviously more effective in a 4-4-2. So that was his major downfall. But looking at the way he plays he's just not really an effective player anymore and so for Milan to pay $11m for him after two subpar seasons and to basically purchase him to be a backup to Balo, then $11m seems like a crazy amount for a 29 year old backup.
Tevez is also 29 but is a world class player when playing at his best as evidenced today, so the $9m we paid for him plus bonuses is really chump change for a world class striker...

Marotta has his flaws but at the end of the day he is a great guru now if he only brought in a new lwb ( which is driving me crazy every time i see asamoah play because he loses the ball so much in attack) this would be a 100 percent perfect mercato

Re: Just so we are all 100% clear on this...
Kolarov would make this team complete. We just stole $11m from Milan. Why not use that money to purchase Kolarov and make this team complete? Asamoah is a very good defensive midfielder and can be a vice Marchisio. But he is not a LWB. We need someone who can push the play upfield and cross the ball effectively from the left side.marottalad wrote:Marotta has his flaws but at the end of the day he is a great guru now if he only brought in a new lwb ( which is driving me crazy every time i see asamoah play because he loses the ball so much in attack) this would be a 100 percent perfect mercato
Let's hope Marotta has one more trick up his sleeve this weekend...

Re: Just so we are all 100% clear on this...
We do need a wide left player badly. Asa can then be moved to CM and LWB cover.
Kolarov/Coentrao/whoever must come
I understand we don't have 80M to spend every summer. But we've spent less than most other clubs in the league when you crunch the numbers.
So making our Summer spending total at about 20M instead of 3M is by far and away the right thing to do. We'd be strengthening the 1st team and increasing depth. Seems like such an obvious choice to make for me.
We made a stupid amount of money last season, we don't need to pull an Everton and only spend what we make from sales.
Marotta has done a near perfect job, but if there's still a realistic and obvious move to make, it has to be done considering how little we've spent.

Yeah, but the end of the balance sheet came out red again (by a few millions only), so...
