Well, I knew he was a big time party-ier before he left Real. Just because you guys aren't aware doesn't mean it wasn't happening. Anyway, as Nick said, he left on his own accord.

yes. any madrid fan knows that he and benz are/were besotted by the nightlife. but I think him leaving for this reason is bs. Guti didn't make it a secret that he went out partying till the early morning and he retired with us

You can do what you want as long as you are performing on the pitch.  But when you're plagued by stamina and fitness questions, then you're being unprofessional.  

Benz stopped his lifestyle in-season for the last 2 years.  Ozil has not.  Instead, Benz is investing some time on bad haircuts.

As far as why Ozil got sold... it's simple.  He wasn't doing what Carlo/Zizou wanted him to do while Benz has.  Benz saved his job while Ozil was sent packing.  Having lifestyle issues made the decision easier...

Benz, the saviour Benz didn't have to do anything because CR7 didn't want to play CF. His only competition is Morata and he still plays withdrawn CF with crappy runs behind the defence who still leaves the box vacated. Big deal

Also, very nice to question Özil's professionalism based on...? No actual quotes. He wasn't ever fined for coming late to training or sanctioned otherwise for improper conduct. On top of it, all of  this apparently happened during Mou era Spanish media are butthurt much Benzema actually slept with an underage prostitute... He'll be gone come next year or even in the winter transfer window. Replacement is the problem, I hope we get Suarez.

Well, whatever makes you happy. Raul and RVN were past it while Benz was bought as a more talented starter over Higuain. It took him 3 seasons to beat out the so called 'inferior' player
Özil didn't escape competition, he didn't want to be benched for political reasons like Higuain after Benz' arrival.

Yeah... Higuain was benched because of political reasons  Higuain was the full time starter until he got his back injured.  After that, Benz outperformed him.  They went back and forth the whole with neither letting go an inch.

And yeah, Raul was really past it too. His passage at Schalke showed that.

Ozil, on the other hand, never had any competition and, after a stellar first year, has been the second most inconsistent player on the team behind Di Maria.

But Di Maria works hard and plays defense.  He also doesn't run from competition like Ozil did.  

Some guys are fighters... others are soft... just how it is.

That said, i hope Ozil finds success at Arsenal.  He doesn't have to worry about competition and they'll cater to him.

Well, the difference might be that Mesut Özil is a creative midfield player, while Karim Benzema is considered a forward and doesn't really need that much creativity. Often creativity is coupled with higher sensitivity, and one just can't treat all people alike. IMO that is always a big point why some players flourish in certain environments and others don't.

Benzema was starter during Pellegrini era and he was a disappointment. Higgy then took over. You're describing Mou era. He came and found an overweight, out of form kid called Benzema and called him a cat. It's when he started to actually train hard, 1.5 years after his signing. Then Higgy injured his back...

Let's compare a striker like Benzema without which they would have just one other striker to Ozil who plays in a position which is flooding with midfielders where his role or rather his best attributes cannot be used properly.

Really, you are sounding so desperate to cover your loss.

Benz had a tough first year.... but you didn't see him running to mommy like Ozil did. You didn't hear about his agent crying to the media.  He stayed and fought with no guarantees and a manager who didn't prefer him.  He did it because he felt like he had to prove he belonged and that he could beat out anyone.  Di Maria is the same tbh and, despite being a critic of his, i have to now give him respect.  He fights like a pitbull.

But enough of this.  Ozil feels entitled to his playing time.  Just the way he is.  Too bad he doesn't want to prove it on the pitch and wants it to be handed to him by default... Arsenal's gain though.  If he were made of tougher stuff, they wouldn't have gotten him.

Yet Benzema was a lot more important to Real Madrid last season than Ozil was.

Ozil plays well but rarely and I do mean rarely ever impacts a game so much that he is a match winner.

I have a hard time thinking of more than 2 occasions last season where Ozil won us the match with his performances. Benzema on the other hand.....

We got rid of Ozil and gained two genuine match winners in Isco and Bale something this team sorely lacked over the past couple of seasons. Ozil wasn't a match winner, he was creative and a brilliant player on his day for 60mins at a time but he could never really take a game by the scruff of the neck and win it for you, you didn't fear Mesut coming off the bench like you would with Di Maria, he just wasn't that sort of player.

It's funny how all the Madrid fans rush to discredit Ozil as soon as he leaves.

no, those are issues we have talked about in the past, it;s mainstream fans that never did. we have literally criticized everyone at our club, including CR, ozil is no exception.

It's funny I was saying the same thing when he was with us and I was bashing him for chucking a hissy fit and not responding to Ancelotti's tactics as well. Nice try though.

If Ozil had stayed and fought until the winter mercato... then, like Higuain, he would leave with my utmost respect.  Gave it his all and it didn't work out.  

But i have a hard time swallowing this, especially when he says he left because he "lost the respect and trust of the club".  He started every single game in preseason and to start the season!

Heck, forget Benz and Di Maria... even Iker is staying a while to try and win his position back.  Believe me... Iker is a lot more entitled to starting for Madrid than Ozil will ever be.  If Iker can't win his position back and he leaves in the winter or later... i would be crushed but very respectful of his decision. Hope it doesn't happen though

What I'm saying is that there's not much in these 52 pages acknowledging that Ozil is an absolutely top-class attacking midfielder whose contribution to the club has been immense. It's all "he was lazy, he has attitude problems, he wasn't defensively capable". Give the man some credit.

I'm not criticizing his skil... that's unquestioned. I'm questioning his mentality.

Okay, the situation with Benzema, Di Maria, Casillas, Higuain and the likes are very different from Ozil's with respect to their position in the NT. Benzema is number one for France. So is Casillas for Spain. Di Maria starts for Argentina even when he is benched in Madrid and similar case with Higgy as well.

Can Ozil afford to play second fiddle in Madrid when there are other players who could easily replace in the NT?

well, it's normal it appears that way because he left us a bit upset, we are all a bit disappointed in how it ended. Also, we can hardly call his contribution to the club "immense", but he has been a great madrid player for the past 3 years.
