Too much hoofing. Looking at Chelsea, utd, and city's midfields is enough to make a purist cry. Great attacking players though.

Being the best team in England last year wasn't the hardest thing in the world. That's not saying much, considering how horrible City, Chelsea & Arsenal were. You were champions by default.
Think of it this way, what title team in the last 20 years was the 12/13 United team better than? Only shout is MAYBE 10/11 United but that's about it. That was a weak title squad, and you know it.

Yes, because City performed just as good as the previous season but only just fell short.....oh wait......
Like I said, other teams were POOR.

I have to be the only one who doesn't rate Chelsea or something. Like, even though Eto'o was a great acquisition, I still don't see them as title challengers and probably 3rd or 4th. I tip them for 3rd, personally, where they make top 4 comfortably but don't really challenge for the title.
City and United will duke it out for the title imo

Liverpool the "next Juventus".
Be mediocre splashing cash on average players for 3 years straight, and then title challenge after adopting 3 at the back and some shrewd signings.

Re: Could we be potentially seeing the most competitive PL title race since 2003?
I've thought it was going to be wide open since the beginning just with all the coaching changes. I figured Chelsea was the automatic favorite, but even with Eto'o they are still thin up front, so while I would peg them as favorites it's still a wide open contest between:
Spurs, Liverpool, United, Arsenal, City, and Chelsea
Each team had a moment last year when it looked like they could go on a run. Personally, considering how well Liverpool played the top teams last year, if they were able to add the one thing they didn't have last year, that being consistency, especially against the lesser lights of the Premier League, they could very well make a go of it this season.

2 wins against the top 6 in the PL, that's just not good enough. Last year, yes we might of had the the few hiccups against the lower quality teams, but it is the results against the big clubs that cost us.Motogp69 wrote:Personally, considering how well Liverpool played the top teams last year, if they were able to add the one thing they didn't have last year, that being consistency, especially against the lesser lights of the Premier League, they could very well make a go of it this season.

I don't mean the results, but Liverpool played all of the big teams tough last year. A lot of those games were lost on ridiculous moments of stupidity. However, the spine was there for them to build on at least.

We sort of did well against the big clubs. We just unfortunately didn't get the points to make up for it. So you make a valid point. Still think our realistic chance is getting into the top 4, but I wouldn't mind fighting for the league.

We are 'Suarez' short of competing for the league title.

The handicap for 7th isn't an even money shot, finishing out of the top 4 is more of a better bet to wager.McAgger wrote:Care to bet on that?Abramovich wrote:The awkward moment on GL when Liverpool finish 7th, can't wait .

Re: Could we be potentially seeing the most competitive PL title race since 2003?
It may turn out to become Man Citys title to lose as the other teams will face changes over the next season so man city can win the title because they have the strongest and numbers in depth of squad so many choices available to Manuel Pellagrini.
So, this leaves the only top 4 places available to the other sides and very tough matches lay ahead for each and every team in the Prem.
Of course, expect to see Utd,chelsea, arsenal and liverpool battle to become inside the top four

Re: Could we be potentially seeing the most competitive PL title race since 2003?
If you look at the respective midfields of the 7 teams who could finish in the top 4, Liverpool and Man U have the 2 weakest midfields. However they do have Sturridge/Suarez and Van Persie/Rooney which certainly more than makes up for it.
I would have Chelsea as favourites for the league at this current moment, I genuinely think that any of 7 teams could finish in the top 4, as someone who thinks the premiership ie really over rated, I'm actually quite looking forward to the rest of the season.
I think Arsenal will surprise a few people by finishing higher than people think.

How can you talk about depth when just 2 weeks ago they were starting Javi Garcia at CBGrooverider wrote:It may turn out to become Man Citys title to lose as the other teams will face changes over the next season so man city can win the title because they have the strongest and numbers in depth of squad so many choices available to Manuel Pellagrini.

Re: Could we be potentially seeing the most competitive PL title race since 2003?
This is the most competitive PL title since the start of the PL and any of these teams could battle for a top four finish and the title.
MUnited: now without the fergie factor, they are no longer the result grinders of last season. Still, they have the history of titles behind them and could go at the title. (Title contenders, sure top 4)
MCity: an unbalanced side imo, and with little passion and even less identity. However, they have the talent and names to be a threat, although the change in manager hurt their chances imo and could even cost them a top 4 finish. (Title contenders, highly likely for top 4)
Chelsea: With the weakening of their competition and an experienced hardy squad, I see Mou once again picking a winning destination. There is no excuse for Chelsea not to win this title. (Title favorites, sure top 4)
Arsenal: For the first time in 7 years, Arsenal are actually looking like title contenders, especially with the late addition of Ozil in their ranks. However, if anything we know about the Gunners, it is their tendency to go on a bad run, which they can't afford if they want this title. (Title contenders, likely top 4)
Liverpool: Pool are a conundrum. In paper, they should be title contenders, but their woeful finishing last season will put an end to any speculation of that type if it repeats itself this season. Yet, I look forward to seeing this team in the CL again. (Outside chance for title, top 4 possible)
Spurs: IMO, spurs are the team most likely to miss out the top 4 spots. Simply put, their opponents are stronger and more mentally prepared than them with the exception of Liverpool. With even them now seeming more prepared, I can't see the spurs but missing out on the top 4, even if they will continue competing for it all season. (top 4 contenders)
IMO the table would look like this:
1- Chelsea
2- Arsenal
3- United
4- Liverpool
5- City
6- Spurs
