Re: Who will win the 2013/14 Champions League?
the midfield was far from solid last year, thats why they lost 7-0

That's what you took out of the 7-0? I mean yeah if you want to not talk about countless things that contributed and say we lost 7-0 because of one thing-- our midfield-- go ahead, but you look ridiculous doing it.

well if the midfield was solid, simply put, it wouldnt have been a 7-0 scoreline. its obviously not the only contributing factor but it was a major one.

Midfield cant be solid, Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets combine to weigh less than Martinez and Gustavo alone.Albiceleste wrote:well if the midfield was solid, simply put, it wouldnt have been a 7-0 scoreline. its obviously not the only contributing factor but it was a major one.
That level of technical ability combined with poor physique only is viable within a team oriented pressing system. The second the press is broken (because of poor positioning in our cause) or they have to soak up extended time defending without the ball the more they become liabilities because they now have to defend in open spaces.

That would pretty much be my major concern, but if you can rotate effectively and keep the players fresh for when the real stuff happens i see no reason why you can't win it.CBarca wrote:Hard for me to peg us as favorites when we haven't improved on our defense (YES, I know our pressing is miles better than it was). Our attack is brilliant, midfield is always solid.
But there are so many variables between now and then...will we get fatigued? The depth in our midfield is less than it use to be with Thiago gone, Xavi is a year older still. Will our pressing remain as good as it has been?
What does this team look like when the press is broken?
We have a lot to answer for yet, so I can't say us with certainty. However, if we play like we did against Levante and at times in preseason...if we can even improve on that performance, I see no reason we can't win the CL.

I think it will be repeat what Dortmund achieved last season but they will surely come close, like loosing marginally in semi final

Hey guys, i am new here haven't got a chance to post much with work and home renovating and all, but anyway i really want to say barca will take it but they need to sign a solid CB. Other then that, i cant see any team playing more intelligent soccer then bayern and barca.
Cheers

Plz Jibers, now that United are free from the shackles of SAF's tactical naivety/incompetence I think we will see them fly in Europe.
