"Many years ago, Verona needed a win to avoid relegation, which it got, and some fans went on the field and got jerseys from the players. The ultras felt the players didn't deserve such adulation after a disappointing season, so The Hooligan and his brother went down to the pitch, slapped some, punched a few others, and demanded the fans march back into the locker room and give the jerseys back. They beat the crap out of anyone who disagreed " Shocked

This is the controversial ESPNFC article to which enraged Italians all over the world. The author of this article previously showed nonsensical prejudice to Calcio and never responded to the criticism. All over Twitter and other databases within Italia, he was called out for his stories to which presented as many facts as the recently found out "Italian Schindler".

Not only has this article been proven to present fallacious facts regarding people, places and dates but it is not objectively written, yet a personal sermon of "experiences".

If we go by these events then Germany, England, Espana and France all should be painted within this conjecture. Italian media, like Guardia Firenze for corruption. is simply quick to point out these racism causes and tackle them head on unlike some Western European Countries who swiftly sweep the news under the rug.

This article paints Italia in a very biased point of view laced with disposition. Almost a month since he has written it and still hasn't responded to the top writers who even work within ESPNFC.

Ever wonder why this had such a short span in the front page? Its archived now.

Italia is NOT a racist nation or even close to it.

Bullshit article.

Care to post the specific people and facts that the article has been called out on rather than mention them?

Did you even read the article or its criticism?

-All the names he mentions have not been verified by anyone.
-Balotelli denies the claims that this bigot states within the article on twitter along with KPB
-Dozens of "quotes" taken out of context completely especially since most of them are spoken in dialect.
- Uses Mario Borghezio in false context of political term and his quotes which weren't ever uttered
- James Walston denies his subsequent quotes and ordered to remove this article from ESPNs page thus, archived
-The fact that Fred Marconi died 4 years before the author is said to mention him
- The fact that he uses urban legends & tales to verify this non-objective biased trash of an article
-Doesn't state facts and are as useless as when Barca fans blame Franco for Real Madrid's success.

And you know what? He didn't respond to anyone and continues to block anyone who challenges this pathetic article.

I didn't even read this trash carefully while there are hoardes of Italia's on twitter who broke this article down into the fallacious and biased piece of junk it is.

I couldn't be bothered to present anything else but if you want to ask just a few on twitter:

Ask: @ACMilanNYC
-@sportscaddy
@KayLMurray
@TheMilanGuy
@GabMarcotti
@JamesHorncastle

All of them who denied most of the fallacy within this article along with going as far as the length of questioning its validity.

Don't be fooled by its fancy presentation and long text. This article is one of ESPN's worst ever pieces churned.

I second this, I'd give this author a good punch in the face if I could

Interesting read on Italian football Empty Re: Interesting read on Italian football

I found this a very interesting read actualy. I don't know anything about the author , never read any of his stuff before yet he makes it clear that his journey in Italy was meant to write about racism in Italy's football , trying to find whatever social or past roots there are behind it.

Also gets to talk about hooliganism , which Italian football is no stranger , and how hardcore ultras use racism in the stadiums and why . Once again however , the same can be said about almost any other country .

Not sure why you thrash it like that Arquitecto , i am sure he can go to any country and write an article much like that. He never said Italy is a racist nation , you came to that conclusion . In the last match of Hellas Verona in Serie B , he's crystal clear :

When standing in the middle of the chants, it felt like everyone in the stadium was singing fascist songs, but really, it's just a small pocket of madmen

He's very specific about any incident or situation he talks about in his article and never , not once he gets to generalise.

Moving on , if some names cannot be verified it's because he wants to protect their privacy , doesn't mean it all came out of his head . And i am sure the mayor's name Antonio Balzarotti is a real one , amongst others.

What this article really is and i am sorry Arq but it's not one of the worst pieces churned , is the author trying to get a closer look at events , both current or past ones. It's not about to trash talk Italia or make Italians look racists.

I'll post some things more later , but this is a solid article , even if some bits maybe(..) aren't true or easily verified , you can't but look at the greater picture.
