How impressive is Oscar?
I think we have all watched a lot of NT games this past week, but i have to say that no player impressed me more than Oscar with Brazil.
I wanted to just take the opportunity to talk about something football fans seem to consistently overlook when they rate player, it's football IQ, pure intelligence.
Oscar doesnt look like the most impressive of athletes, he doesnt overwhelm opposing players with tricks and flicks, he is pure intelligence, pure decision making. Rightness of play is written all over him. In a way, he is very similar to someone like Gotze.
In this youtube Era, players are rated by how well they can pull out tricks and dribbles, how nice their youtube compilations look. Ball technique is important, but pure intelligence like that never lies. There is a player that has barely played any footy this season, yet he steps on the pitch with his NT and all of a sudden he has them ticking because his brain is figuring out exactly where he needs to be, what pass to make, when to have the extra touch, or when to back pass and to hold it off. A steep contrast when looking at the names around him, he was certainly the least known with Romulo and the GKs. yet he put to shame the likes of Lucas or Neymar with an abundance of simplicity.
Hats down, that kid is going to be a star, book it.

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
Better than Ganso with Brazil ever was imo, despite his assist statitics.
I liked his roaming no 10 role. Gave midfield stability and flow to their game.
Reminds me of Ozils game.

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
yeah, hes like a right footed version of ozil.actually hes pretty well known here in brazil, guardiola was scouting him last year, avb was here last month to watch him in the libertadores.
i think that teams will come after him in this tranfer window, his performances were very good.all of them, including yesterday

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
In these first few games for the senior side I was most impressed with his movement on the field. He would pop up everywhere to orchestrate the plays. In the past, there were times when our attacking players were too static and that led to the ball being stuck in our half. You would see the center backs exchanging passes seven or eight times because they had nowhere to go. But with Oscar playing, there is always an option.

Oscar is like right footed Ozil, though ozil is much sharper and more developed.

Well no matter what, Brazil need the best squad possible for the upcoming WC. I saw the USA V. Brazil match and although he isn't flashy, Oscar can still help bring back Brazil's flair.

For me, his off the ball movement is the best out of any of the current Brazilian team.

Blog much?
Anyway i dont agree he's like Ozil, Nick is right he is more like Goetze or Kroos.....
Someone that relies on his brain and appreciation of space is indeed rare which is why its so great when you see someone like this.
I would like to see Oscar and Ganso together as i feel their skillsets compliment each other well only if Ganso could stay fit

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
Yeah he is a rare talent, and you can spot it very quickly. He was already impressive in the u20 world cup, but what he did with Brazil, with a group of players he had never played with, was just incredible to me.
I see nothing of Ozil in him myself, he is very much like Gotze, just a lot of smart, a lot of simple touches, but 10/10 decision making.
Ganso will be back at some point i guess, his body will stop him from reaching his potential, but he is someone else with tremendous vision, and his passing is phenomenal. I dont think a lot of people here bother to watch Santos, but he is a real talent. It's a bit cheap to talk badly of him as if he is flopping, it's not the case at all.

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
Ganso's problem is his injuries, it slows down his progress. If you watched him for Brazil against USA in 2010 you saw how awesome he can be when he's 100%.
But totally agreed, Oscar has been impressive, and Ganso better watch out. I would like to see if anyone can make Oscar + Ganso work on the pitch.
And I wonder if the former will stay at Internacional after these displays...

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
I doubt Ganso will lose his place for good by Oscar . It's early to tell really . Let Ganso recover and play again with the NT , then we could talk about it.
But Oscar is really bright on the field , always a clear idea of what to do with the ball in attack..he could work wonders with Ganso and a b2b midfielder near him .

Re: The Official Oscar Thread
I dont think Mascherano is an impressive DM anymore tbh and this is based on more than one game.
He's a much better CB than DM now, whether you choose to accept that is up to you.
Gago is much more impressive to me than Mascherano.
Not taking anything away from Oscar though the kid is legit.
