Even if we are going to assume Mikel is a great player, we still only have one proven option in that position. Romeu is an unseasoned youngster who's hardly set the world alight even when he did get chance and I doubt he'll get much of a sniff under Mou. Going into a season competing on all fronts where we'll presumably be looking to compete for the title and go deep in Europe with 1 natural defensive midfielder in the entire squad is lunacy.

He is but he can still be somewhat usefull. He doesn't have the legs he once did but he still has his brain as long as he gets told the right things, he can be decent.

I am not saying we should rely on them but I'm trying to say it's not the end of the world if we don't buy a DM.

That being said, De Rossi or Lars Bender please. Very Happy

Essien is on a huge wage and will be a bit-part player at best. Should offload him this summer if the opportunity arises.

As for the second suggestion, Seeing Kicky Mk.II in the team would be great Proud

I think I would be okay with it as long as MVG got a decent amount of game time to prove himself. Jose would have to work tactically with Luiz, Ivanovic and Mikel though so our defence is not full of holes.

I honestly hate the fact that Oscar is played out wide. In some kind of perfect world both him and Mata could play centrally. This way Oscar doesn't suffer the fate of playing as a winger.

Oscar should be moved to CM. He's had good showings there when experimented and it's the only way he'll ever be a regular in the team IMO with Mata the undisputed starting #10. Unfortunately, I don't see Mou putting that kind of player in there, to I have no idea what happens to him now.

I'm not so sure. A £25m player with no place in the team because the manager the board decided to hire doesn't play in a way that's condusive to him or the squad as a whole. Let's just hope something can be figured out because he'll be a star in a few years - provided he's not marginalised next season and beyond, of course.

As oppose to having no decent AM's? It's just like our GK situation, we have two World Class goal keepers while teams like Arsenal have none and are struggling to find one.

I wish we had spent our money more wisely as well but we are stuck in this situation so we better make the best of it. It's not a bad situation to be stuck in.

It is though. If Mourinho doesn't play him in a deep-lying playmaker role in CM, then there's literally no place in the team for him as he's useless out wide. He's one of the best young prospects in world football for whom the club shelled out £25m and if he's not playing regularly, it will stunt his development and negatively impact his career immensely and he'll likely be looking for a move out sooner rather than later. Not sure how that's good for either party.

Pretty sure it was 25m Euros, not pounds. Sendly, I would have never bought him to begin with. He was always an unnecessary purchase. We should have bought a proper winger over him, Schurrle would have been a better buy.

Thirdly, I doubt we won't be able to sell him for more than we bought him for as long as he performs for the NT.

Pounds according to both Sky Sports and BBC. And no one's paying more than that for him at the stage he's at. He indeed probably shoudn't have been signed but he's at the club now and it's the club's responsibility to include him in the side, as they should be more than happy to do considering his enormous potential.

I am pretty sure all the brazilian papers said it was 25m Euros.

And the way he plays for the NT + his age means he will go for at least the same price.

If I was to totally overhaul the squad, I would sell him tbh.

I am sure he will get plenty of playing time at the very least.

His price was inflated to begin with and no one's going to pay that a second time around for potential alone, especially considering any prospective buyers will know Chelsea are desperate to get rid of him.

I'm not sure why we should even have to sell him. When you've got a player as talented as him in your ranks, regardless of the wisdom of the initial purchase, you find a way to make it work. If Mourinho's serious about evolving his philosophy and developing the young players that make up the lion's share of the squad into Chelsea's next golden generation, he'll find a way to fit him in.

I don't disagree with what you're saying but in a day in age where Scurrle fetches 23m euros, Oscar will get a similar price.

I would love to see Oscar in the pivot too, I really hope Jose gives it a shot. Oscar is good enough tactically to play there anyway.

Precisely. We've seen what he can do there and if Mourinho can take that potential and turn him into a star in that position, it will be perfect. If anyone can do it, it's him. Will he have the willingness to? We'll see.
